I know these aren't great speakers. I am unwilling to spend money on great speakers.

Any opinions on how these compare to the deftech procinema set I'm running now? I like the idea of not having to use standard up front.

You're comparing an entry level satellite set to an entry level traditional set.

In general, this should be better, by how much & if it's worth $280, that no one can answer but you.

It sounds like this might indeed be an error on this item. I (just now) ordered one of the other slickdeals Energy deals from adorama (2x CF-50); for that order the tax was on the post-coupon amount (as you would expect).
