Like the linked video says, there was an issue with distributing stuff through Windows Update as part of the driver package.

FYI, you can disable all of that from happening, but I understand the whole line of trust is broken for some people. But at these prices that they're dropping to it really becomes a matter of "what's my privacy worth"

This is the first thing I think of every time I see LG displays of any kind now.

And for those of you who didn't click on the link, monitors is listed right in the title of the video so yes monitors...

It's actually pretty nefarious what they're doing. I want to say it goes through Windows updates once it detects the monitor if I remember correctly.

As the other poster said, it looks like you can block it now but still....

I'm not sure if I have seen any kind of follow-up. Other than not accepting, how would one disable on a TV?

When they were talking about TVs, if I remember correctly didn't Gamers Nexus go into some of the potential problems with the listening on the TVs, for instance whether or not you had to legally warn everyone who went into your house and I think there was something about listening to children and how they couldn't legally consent, as well.

Well this is thread about a particular monitor, so I was speaking to exactly that monitors. It's not something "LG is doing" it's something Microsoft is allowing, people on Linux or Apple using these monitors do not experience this. And part of me still thinks it's something about giving permission for the LG software to show you ads because I never saw McAfee popups mostly because I look through all those sliders and check boxes that typically are on by default. Not sure if that is the case here but you can also block it at the OS level too.

Now that said, TVs are going to show you ads, take any major TV manufacturer from Samsung to Sony to Roku, they all have "sponsored content" that shows you ads in some way whether you want them or not. Again, not sure about how intrusive LG does it, but everyone does do it in some way. As for the ToS that you agree with, again look at everyone, it's absolutely horse shit but no one doesn't do it, they don't like to give you rights for anything and say anything is your responsibility but then they also leave themselves an out saying they can change the rules anytime THEY want to.

Honestly I think people are getting too worked up over this, and their focusing their anger at the wrong players.
