The Ninja CREAMi XL Deluxe stands out as a strong pick for protein and specialty frozen treats, especially low carb or keto style ice cream. It can make multiple servings per container, and the XL format is praised for turning high protein milk, monk fruit, allulose, whey, or yogurt based mixes into customizable desserts. Cleaning is manageable when the machine is rinsed right away and dried vertically, though the blade area is still awkward and the unit is very loud. Refurb units also draw caution because of short warranty coverage and reports of early failures, so the warranty matters.

Common Questions (5)

  • It needs immediate cleaning after use: rinse right away, soak or spray out the residue, and air-dry vertically. The blade/top area is the hardest part to clean, and if ice cream dries inside, buildup and mold can become a problem.

  • Yes, it is especially useful for protein, keto, and low-carb ice cream because it can make customized pints with ingredients like whey protein, cottage cheese, yogurt, allulose, and monk fruit. It is less compelling if you only want regular ice cream.

  • Yes. The refurb listing is described as having a 90-day warranty, which is shorter than some other refurb offers. That makes the return/warranty window a key part of the value decision.

  • Yes, it is extremely loud while running, but the noise only lasts about 2 minutes per spin cycle. That makes it more of a short burst of noise than a long-running appliance.

  • Yes. The mix needs to settle and freeze completely flat, or the blade can wobble, break, strip threads, or even fly off and damage the shaft.

This maker has a bad design making cleaning impossible, reports of mold forming in several places that are impossible to open and come in contact with the mix, look on reddit. Wish I never bought it.
It is funny, I agree that it's a poor design in terms of cleanliness, but I clean mine thoroughly IMMEDIATELY after spinning before even eating any and have no issues, mine is like 2 years old. Probably made 50-75 pints, something like that. But yeah, it would be better if the top half opened and pint blade thing could be opened.

Warning about getting a refurbished one of these because there are a number of design flaws with this that can often get overlooked by the person inspecting them. Users often return these because they failed to ensure they froze their mix completely flat before blending. The blade comes down like a drill press and when it's not flat the blade will wobble violently and this will both strip the metal threads and demagnetize the magnet holding the blade onto the shaft. The inspectors often just replace the blade in these when that happens but not the now demagnetized magnet or the stripped shaft. In some cases the blade will fly off the shaft completely and bend the shaft and leave metal shavings in peoples mixes. Ninja engineers should have known friction demagnetizes things and developed a better way to attach the blade. You can use hand sanitizer to get the Sharpie off your product QR code if you got stuck with a broken one and need Ninja to replace it though. Wink

I bought one of these refurb units from Woot last year. I LOVED IT. Worked great for about 7 months then it died on me. Contacted Ninja just to if they could offer any guidance on repair. I knew they wouldn't provide any kind of replacement. But they sent me a link to their own refurbished store and told me to go buy another one. Not saying don't buy it, just sharing my experience. In the time it worked I really enjoyed it, but won't be buying another one.

Bought one when it was $100 last time at woot. I think it was new but with some light scratches so that was good. Bought 4 more pints and lids from aliexpress for $13. Overall satisfied with the product. 3 cons: hard to clean the top that holds the blade, low sugar and low fat recipes aren't tasty you gotta put at least some sugar, and mix ins are hard to break and mix well on the bottom level. If you are buying this to cut down on calories, it will work but just remember it's just like diet cokes - you will falsely think that you haven't had much calories and overeat to compensate
