I've always wanted this type of adapter "just in case." Is this one worth getting?

Agree, it seems like hdmi input on a monitor is always more likely than usb c. Is there a recommended converter that supports 4K/120?

If you plan to use it with your phone, get one with USB-C power IN so you don't have to rely on the phone's battery the entire time. I use one to watch content from my phone on TVs when travelling. A full blown hub with HDMI+USB ports is even better if you want to connect game controllers or your phone can do desktop mode although you aren't going to find a good name brand one at this price.

A USB-C hub with power in and HDMI out does the same thing and is a lot more versatile, and can often be found under $20.

Unless you have a very specific need for this adapter, I'd rather have the hub

If you look at the cablematters brand on amazon they have a few adapters and cables that do 4k/120 and their stuff is generally reliable. Cost will be around $20-25
