Way too much for an old formula. Spend a few extra and get the mx 6.

Edit, meant mx 7, mx 6 is better as well, just very gooey and annoying to use if you're pasting a bunch.

I understand why you'd put thermal paste on a processor, but why on a spatula?

This is one of the strangest promoted deals on the site, dozens of likes every time within an hour of post. It's routinely $3 or less somewhere, and as you mentioned MX-6 is a better deal, and even gets down to the same price per gram in larger tubes.

Not sure why this is a deal. You can buy the 8g at $5.99. Also this is outdated paste that should not be used on modern CPU's and definitely not on GPU's.

How much performance improvement for MX-7 over MX-4, just curious? Was it worth the 40% extra premium?

The marketing is bigger number better. The reality is each has a different ideal application due to different viscosity. I buy 4 and 6, and still use MX-2 for some applications, and I only buy 30 g tubes. These 4 g tubes are all overpriced by comparison. Even a light DIYer can use a 8 g or larger tube for a decade if they want. Contrary to whatever AI nonsense pops up, none of it dries out in the tube, or loses performance until heat cycled. I know I have tubes of other assorted brands that are 20 years old now, and still fine. Bottom line, absolutely not worth 40% more for MX-7. DIYers are easy targets for high margin products with relatively low cost.

I came here to say this exact same thing. It's literally only like $3 more or something, maybe less if you shop around.

If you're spending many hundreds, maybe $1,000+ on a build, spend $3 more for the mx7.

This is a site promoted "hot deal" every other week. Ask yourself, why does it need promoted so often?

This is .7g /$.
The 45g tube is currently $18, or 2.5g/$ and will essentially have a non-business user set for life.

If you're actually planning out a build, you would just go straight to PTM7950 ordered by boat and call it a day.

Pastes are amateur hour if you aren't an OEM trying to shave costs.

And if you're still comparing pastes, you're the last frame of the progressively dressing more like a clown meme. Those comparisons have been pointless for over two decades. Arctic Silver (entirely different company than Arctic Cooling) still competes on the baseline with stuff from today and that dates back to at least 2005.

Besides, heat spreaders are manufactured to way better tolerances than they used to be. You barely need any TIM at all and certainly not as much as every YouTuber (including Gamers Nexus and Linus) on the planet shows.

It's just supposed to fill in gaps, not add another inch to your heatsink.

But to answer your question, the reason why it's promoted so often is because it's sourced from the same manufacturer that OEMs get their paste from and it's dirt cheap. The MX7 isn't actually more expensive for any discernable reason, it just isn't what OEMs buy.

I just (like literally 30 sec before opening the SD app) bought MX7 off Amazon for $2 more so there's no way $9 is the regular price for MX4.
