This is the deal that started it all for me in 2018/2019. Canon t7 deal with lenses and pixma pro 100 printer for 699 after rebate...and yet the cost of the set is the same now lol. It's crazy how dslr's are held in value by people unwilling to go newer/modern and rely on outdated videos.

Antiquated DSLR technology -- entry level model, with one of the worst lenses Canon made, the 75-300mm zoom.

You'd be better off buying used or direct-from-Canon refurbished.

I'd disagree with this stance -- this model is still being sold for an exorbitant amount of money, but it hasn't "held" its value.

You can get a used professional-tier Canon 5D Mark IV for sub-$600. A few are even around the $400 mark, with blemishes. That's a FAR CRY from the original MSRP.

For a close equivalent amount of money, you can go mirrorless and get far better performance.

This is a giant YMMV, but these same kits are also on clearance at Target. Can be 30%, 50%, or 70% depending on store.

I do think this is a great deal for anyone wanting to try photography as a hobby. Both lenses pretty much cover anything you will need as a beginner. If you get deep in the hobby you will realize it is just a beginner camera (like it says). If you enjoy the hobby that is when you look into better cameras and lenses.
I started with the aps-c dslr camera. Realized it was not for me. I now use Olympus micro 4/3 because it is just more compact. I don't have high dollar lenses but you know what... it takes good enough pics for what I want to do and I enjoy the hobby for what I have spent(I will never spend big money on lenses because stuff like a little rainbow effect in the pic type things don't bother me)

For starting out this is a great plug and play kit.

Just my opinion.

Hard disagree. There are so many older cameras and lenses you can buy used for FAR less than this.

The Canon 5D Mark II is a veritable workhorse -- does photo and video. Exposed controls so it's easy to actually learn on. $100-150 for the body. Pick up a nifty 50mm/1.8 for sub-$100. Or a 24-105/4 L (mark I) for $300. If you play your cards right, you can get ALL of the above for less than this deal's cost of $500.

And that's going with pro-quality. You want a cheap beater body? Check out the older Canon 10D, 20D, 30D, etc series. You can pick up some of those for sub-$75.

Want to use Nikon? D200 or D300 mid-tier bodies. These can be had for sub $150.

How about Olympus micro 4/3rds? E-M1 Mark I. $300. Pro-tier from the early days of mirrorless. It was a jaw-dropper back in its day.

ALL of these are far better than this deal's plastic entry-level offerings. That 75-300 is genuinely considered to be one of the worst lens formulas Canon ever made. Soft throughout the entire focal range AND aperture range.

-----

And against my better judgement, you can get the Canon R100 two-lens kit for $400 refurbished, direct from Canon. That's an entry-level current-generation mirrorless that'll outperform the above T7....saving you $100. And you still get the entire cheap plastic junk experience!
