Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

Notably, this has less warranty than the standard retail version, and there are enough reports of these CPUs dying due to motherboard voltage issues that you should consider the savings vs risk for this CPU.

I recommend just saving/cutting back a bit more than usual for like a month and then buying the 9950x3d. The price difference isn't that much. Way better at multitasking for gaming and workstation. Like in some cases twice as good.

This is mostly with Asrock motherboards that I've seen. I'd steer clear of using that combo for sure.

Agreed. I had a 7800X3D randomly die, I certainly wouldn't want to save a few dollars and get screwed by a lack of warranty on a $400 CPU. Especially considering how little you're saving while taking that risk

If I'd be willing to take the risk of buying a 9800X3D laden in a OEM CPU tray then I might as well buy one from AliExpress for less money.

They put out several bios updates. Still had dead CPU's. Was this because the CPU was already damaged I have no idea. While I found it odd AMD seemed to replace the CPU no questions asked, so folks with fried CPU's were only out some downtime, and potentially the cost to change mobo manufacturers. Reddit threads are alive and well in the Asrock sub reddit.
