A "Hey I just watched a movie" thread

12,438 1,117 April 23, 2010 at 06:49 PM
One of the other forums I go to has one of these threads and I've been turned on to some good movies that other regulars just watched. I was kind of surprised not to see a similar thread here (at least not that I could find.) Big Grin

I just rewatched "Kinamand" - a cute drama about a Danish plumber who gets involved in an arranged marriage with a Chinese illegal. Good stuff (Netflix instant.)

So what have you folks watched recently?

Sadly, yes! My first Bogart film as well, so I have a little bit of catching up to do. I didn't realize how many of the quotes from that movie made it into popular culture. Very cool!

finally watched Rango last night after having it in the queue for almost a month. it was kind of quirky and funny at parts, but broke the fourth wall more than Family Guy (fairly annoying) and had some fart humor that fell flat. not a very well-done children's movie and not a greatly entertaining adult movie, so it's just meh. 5/10

Limitless- Limitless boredom. Yawn You'd think if you unlocked the full potential of your brain you'd be able to do some much more amazing things then what they came up with. So "Full-tilt adrenaline rush" (Rolling Stone), not with just 2 chase scenes. "Mesmerizing" (USA Today)? Clearly we weren't watching the same movie.

Stone - The corn rows on Ed Norton to try and make his character more believable? Silly. I think Eminem would have been a better choice for the role. Milla didn't fit at all and I love Milla Jovovich. She just seemed to be too cheerful with not enough depth to her. It was okay though.

"Kind Hearts and Coronets" - A great British black comedy from the late 40s (with a young Alec Guinness) about a commoner who discovers he has a chance to become a member of British aristocracy (and the lengths he goes to in order to achieve that goal. I loved it. 5/5.

"Caterpillar" - Japanese film about an husband/quadruple amputee war vet and his relationship with his abused wife. 2/5.

"In a Better World" - A Scandinavian film about two families in the midst of turmoil connected by their schoolmate sons who also get into Dutch. I tend to like the stuff this director puts out. Overall this was a pretty good one. 3.5/5

"Murder on a Sunday Morning" - A documentary about the arrest and trial of a 15 year old from Florida who is charged with the murder of a tourist. Not bad. 2.5/5

"Mother India" - A 1950s Indian film from the "top 100 foreign films" list. The story was OK, but it was really long considering how much ground the story covered. 2/5

"Be With Me" - A pretty cool, minimalist film from Singapore that shows three different stories of love and loneliness. 3.5/5

I wanted to like that movie but hated it! Watched Unknown last night, with Liam Neeson and January Jones, and it was pretty good!

Just finished Paul, I thought it was decent, maybe 6.5/10.
