A "Hey I just watched a movie" thread

One of the other forums I go to has one of these threads and I've been turned on to some good movies that other regulars just watched. I was kind of surprised not to see a similar thread here (at least not that I could find.) Big Grin

I just rewatched "Kinamand" - a cute drama about a Danish plumber who gets involved in an arranged marriage with a Chinese illegal. Good stuff (Netflix instant.)

So what have you folks watched recently?

Monuments Men 4/10 Waste of time! I think the worst Ive seen was Ghost Rider 2. but that was because the plot sucked (per my 12 yo son)

Monuments men had all the ingredients to be a great movie! I love historical movies, and WW2 is a familiar subject. This movie felt like Hogans Hero's tries to rescue the Mona Lisa!
This movie had more than one scene that just made no sense, other than to pull at some sympathy strings..I guess.

To sum it up: Banter Banter Oh noes we gotta find the art! Banter Banter,Cate Blancett looking like she smelled dirty socks to prepare for her role. Smoking smoking smoking. Oh a Map! Driving, shooting, Oh Damn, the Earl of Grantham got shot! George Clooney's soliloquies/monologues just ..ugh...

yeah this movie was such a disappointment!

Amazing Spiderman 2 - Very good second helping and I'm really digging Garfield more as Peter Parker than Toby McGuire (not very difficult). The comradery with Emma Stone helped make the chemistry on screen worth seeing. Villains were classic villains but ehhh were merely ok. Harry came across as a crybaby and Electro was so one-dimensional. It was a fun watch nonetheless.

Following - Directed by Christopher Nolan. If you liked Memento, this has very similar qualities to it especially with the chronology of events and suspense. 4/5

X-Men: Days of Future Past - This was an excellent movie in the X-Men series. It gave a great amount of old and new characters (some of which were just cameos). Got to see some new faces, some familiar comic book faces, and all around I enjoyed it. Acting was good, comedic timing was just right, and it wasn't as grim as expected. The pacing was more like the First Class movies and not so much the original X-Men movies. It was slow in the middle a bit and the information given helped peaked my interest until more action occurred.I still think Capt America was faster paced while being as detailed as necessary but this was a good installment. Can't wait for X-Men: Apocalypse (speaking of which stay through the credits).

Cocaine Cowboys: Reloaded - Lengthy follow-up to the original documentary. Interviews with some of the key players that brought coke into the country, the lawyers who defended the cartels, and the police who pursued them. Covers how Miami was changed and shaped into what it is today. Good. Cameos by a very young reporter named Katie Couric and a young Joe Biden.

Freestyle: The Art of Rhyme - Documentary exploring freestyle rap. Very poorly pieced together, centers on very specific people rather than keeping it broad. Most of it wasn't very good. Some of it was great. The battles were more fun to watch than anything else.

Maleficent - pretty good retell, tho' not quite what I was expecting. I think it needed to be a bit longer and expand some parts.

Godzilla - lots of action and special effects were great. And Bryan Cranston is in it!

Wreckers - Good cast but the storyline was vague and there were too many scenes of people awkwardly staring at one another for extended lengths of time. 2/5

Last Love - Really enjoyed it, interesting storyline, good cast and a few really good lines. The only drawback was Michael Cain's wavering American accent, but the movie is well worth watching in spite of that. 3/5

Have you seen "The Selfish Giant" yet - a pretty good gritty English flick.

Don Jon - ] - like the men's version of When Harry met Sally. Cheap, sleazy, cheesy, and not funny like the trailer, but still okay. Good concept just poorly executed.

American Hustle - Terrible. Jen Lawrence saved it as best she could but it was a long orchestra of vapidness. (My language skills are either coming or going!)

Odd Thomas - Based on a Dean Koontz novel, it's quirky, never read the books. It's funny, weird and different, more than being scary, but I liked it. If you liked Dead Like Me, you'll probably like this too. 4/5
Book series is fantastic! Have read 3 of 4 so far and the Movie I just watched as well. The movies timeline falls into the second book if I remember correctly. The first book is after the movie and the second book backtracks in the story a bit. Watching the movie will actually kill some of the suspense of the books (as you know to much to soon).

My only wish was that the movie was a bit darker like the books > more of a sixth sense kinda feel.

I had no idea they were doing an Odd Thomas flick. I read a few of them before I quit reading. Good stuff, I'll have to to check out the film.
