One of the other forums I go to has one of these threads and I've been turned on to some good movies that other regulars just watched. I was kind of surprised not to see a similar thread here (at least not that I could find.) Big Grin

I just rewatched "Kinamand" - a cute drama about a Danish plumber who gets involved in an arranged marriage with a Chinese illegal. Good stuff (Netflix instant.)

So what have you folks watched recently?

Good info. I've read up to Brother Odd and have the next one on my shelf. The books are seriously good in my opinion. Although people bash Dean Koontz I've always been a huge fan. He's like the Stephen King of less horror and more real (down to earth). I love Stephen Kings books as well (Salems Lot favorite!)

I read Ticktock and enjoyed it, but haven't felt the need to read any of his other stuff. A couple years back I was talking books with a friend, and he said all the Koontz books were essentially the same, and laid forth the pattern for me, which fit what I'd read.

Makes sense. I did like the last bit of that article which ties it down for me.

First book I ever read by him was Watchers. Most recent has been Mr. Murder (which was highly creepy),

Occasionally these authors go off the path and write something not of their norm. Like Stephen Kings The Eyes of the Dragon (unrelated to horror and his other stuff). Anyways Don't wanna get anymore to off topic with the movie thread Smilie

A lot of really good writers have a formula, doesn't mean you can't enjoy their books. Dick Francis was like that too. He tried changing it up by adding new primary characters to his books but there was still an underlying formula to most of his stories.

Humble man going about his own business gets swept up into a world of bad guys which features a corrupt horse... jockey/trainer/owner/steward/etc., then after they threatened him or try to kill him (and/or his loved ones) to ensure his silence, he comes up with a clever yet dangerous plan to beat them at their own game.

Yet I loved every one of his books. nod

The Lifeguard - Love Kristen Bell. Hated her in this. Wanted: a fun summer film. Got: depressing unfunny film, lousy location, statutory rape, etc... Pass.

Paranoia (2013) - Fast, fun, nice score, good entertainment. Could've done without Oldman's accent tho.

Kick Ass 2 - 4.5/5 Who doesn't want to be a superhero after watching this? Can't wait for Kick Ass 3. The M-Fer definitely made the movie, but I did knock off .5pt for that d-bag Jim Carey.

Ender's Game - 3.5/5 Interesting story worth watching.

Tucker & Dale vs. Evil - 5/5 When a horror movie is really a comedy, or is it a comedy that's really a horror? Either way it was hilarious.

Maleficent - As good as expected. Jolie rocks it as Maleficent. She knocks it out of the park when her dialogue has an even or sinister tone to it. She really doesn't' feel scary when she gets loud and yells emphatically (like when putting the spell on Beauty). Obviously not her cup of tea as her previous movie work doesn't really ever show her screaming like that. Fanning holds up well as Sleeping Beauty though the Sleeping Beauty part really only has a small part of the movie. Anyhow, pretty visuals and the realm had a Pandora from Avatar feel to it so worth watching. Spoiler: Leaves very little leeway for a franchise or trilogy.
