One of the other forums I go to has one of these threads and I've been turned on to some good movies that other regulars just watched. I was kind of surprised not to see a similar thread here (at least not that I could find.) 
I just rewatched "Kinamand" - a cute drama about a Danish plumber who gets involved in an arranged marriage with a Chinese illegal. Good stuff (Netflix instant.)
So what have you folks watched recently?

Doctor Strange - Never read the DS comics growing up so didn't know anything about the origin story but this movie was mostly wonderful, well done and Cumberbatch is perfect for the role. I'd had my doubts when they cast him but he really is Doctor Strange. DH said it's the best Marvel movie he's seen, I haven't seen all of them so can't compare it to the others. - 4/5

Action and visuals and atmosphere was good. I could not get over how McGyvery it was with the engineer slapping random crap together to make weapons, really killed it for me. Also predictable and the constant need to explain things got old. Wish I hadn't watched it.
Boring movie...dumb plot. Western shoot em up with a twist. The magnificent seven are all sharp shooters who can dodge hundreds of bullets. So dumb.

Better than SW:TFA (2015)... acting is way better, but I can't recall a single new character's name. The comedic relief robot's jokes all landed flat... and the stupid "force" mantra they were all repeating was annoying. At least this had new starship designs and the space battle had memorable hits (ground battle was dumb) and the best part of Disney's SW acquisition, so far, was during the last 5 minutes.

This might have been good if it were a 30-minute Twilight Zone episode. I'm surprised it cost $47 million dollars to make since practically all of it was shot in a field with some tents and a fog machine and actors standing around doing nothing while mumbling their lines.

Train to Busan - "I'm tired of these mf'n zombies on this mf'n train!"
Korean movie about train commuters during a zombie outbreak. Not much grass-growing pretentiousness here. Uses fast-paced World War Z zombies -- including its version of the famous WWZ zombies climbing each other to get over the wall scene.
Acts of love and acts of selfishness alternating with frenetic scenes of oh crap here comes a wave of zombies again.

Oh, but there's a big reveal at the end that makes up for it. lol, no it doesn't. All it really does it make the viewer question why earlier events in the movie didn't happen with less drama and problems.

I enjoyed Arrival. Obviously you were expecting a fast and furious alien shoot em up or space alien zombies. Not all Sci-Fi is about aliens taking over the world. Bet you hated 2001: A Space Odyssey too.
I enjoyed it! Not fond of the beginning though. It felt a bit jumpy and disconnected. They showed some things happening to characters I didn't know yet, didn't care about yet, and therefore it just didn't stick.
I went into it not knowing what it was about, or where it fell in line with the rest of the movies. I hadn't seen any previews - nothing. So without the intro scrawl, I was a bit lost. I understand not having it... and I'm not complaining, but it would have helped out someone like me.
Definitely better than The Force Awakens in my opinion.

A Monster Calls - We got free passes and it was really good. If you're emotional or have lost a loved one recently then you'll want to see it at home. Several noted the ending was confusing but I hope they don't change it before release. The whole film is a good discussion.
