I would wait for Prime Day 2.0 in October (if Amazon repeats last years 2nd Prime Day) and get the Anker Soundcore Select 4 Go on Amazon Haul for $10.

90-95% of the sound quality at ~12.5% of the price.

That little speaker punches FAR above its price point.

Anything near this size from Bose will be equivalent to others like JBL or Monster for 1/3rd the price.

Eh, comparable JBL clip speaker is $80. The JBL is louder but the Bose will have more bass. Monster? They aren't what they used to be.

Normally I'm with you, but this one does pretty well in reviews. JBL Clip 5 is on sale for the same price at Best Buy, and tends to rate lower. From CNET: When I pitted it against similar small speakers like Ultimate Ears Miniroll ($80) and Marshall's Willen 2, which also lists for $130, it wasn't really a contest. The Bose plays louder, delivers more bass and sound clearer. Sound-wise, it's also superior to JBL's Clip 4 and new cannister-style Grip speaker ($100), and also a significant step up from Tribit's Stormbox Micro (around $60), which I still like as a value pick in the micro Bluetooth speaker category.

Take a look at the Monster S150 for ~$25. I switched from the Bose Soundlink Flex to the S150, primarily because the Bose didn't have a built-in mic, and output is comparable.

I've had the gen 1 for 12 years now and still very impressed. Bose got this one right. I paid $99, so $79 for gen 2 in this inflationary climate is a great deal.

I got a JBL Go 3 for free in a promotion. It's about the same size as this and 1/3 the price normally as you say but the sound isn't nearly as good. I've had this Bose speaker for a decade+ now and it's still the best sounding bluetooth speaker of it's size I've had and I've had far too many bluetooth speakers in my life...

This is a good deal for this speaker.

We have the Gen 1 and its been a great "toss it in a travel bag" type of speaker. It goes great at the pool and beach, and has hours of listening time. It has traveled all over the US and Internationally with us. I almost would buy this one just for the USB-C charging, as the Gen 1 has Micro USB and its the only reason I still carry a Micro USB cord. I did wonder how the Gen 2 Utility Strap changes affect how easy it is to strap it to a umbrella or other pole. The Gen 1 seems purpose built for strapping to a 1inch-ish diameter pole, the new one's strap looks both longer, and not stretchy rubber, more of a hanging strap like the JBL Clip.

I'm sure there's cheaper Bluetooth speakers, but the Gen1 for us has stopped me from buying all the random BT Speaker deals that (used to) pop up on Slickdeals.
