MeshCore is WAY better than Meshtastic. Meshtastic doesn't work with a mesh with a hundred of devices. With MeshCore, messages go from Vancouver, BC, to Bellingham, Lynnwood, Seattle, Olymipa, the other Vancouver, WA, to Portland, Salem, Eugene, all the way to Medford, OR. That is from BC, Northern Washington, to Southern Oregon.
From Seattle, there is now a link over 3 mountain top MeshCore repeaters over the Rocky Mountains to Central Washington to Wenatchee!
If building a mesh network that you can message to your friends and families across state lines interests you, MeshCore is it.

This Wio Tracking Device L1 Pro is a compact Meshtastic and MeshCore LoRa GPS node that stands out for easy setup and strong battery efficiency. It arrives flashed with MeshCore Bluetooth Companion firmware, so it can be used right away, and flashing to the latest firmware is described as simple. MeshCore is praised for better range and routing in larger meshes, while Meshtastic still has a role where repeater infrastructure is absent. The main limits are average transmit power and uncertain local coverage, so it fits best where nearby nodes or repeaters already exist.
The device can be used right away because it reportedly ships flashed with MeshCore Bluetooth Companion firmware.
MeshCore companion repeat mode can repeat Bluetooth companions to each other, which helps for camping or cruise-ship deployments.
The Nordic chipset is described as power efficient compared with ESP32, which can support longer battery life for the node.
The $37 price is supported by a builder report that a similar DIY device using the same parts cost more.
MeshCore coverage reportedly appears missing in Crescent City, CA, and Meshtastic also seems dead there.
The promo-code experience reportedly fails after one unit, and later success required account and code workarounds.
Claims about a 1W booster are disputed, with a response saying ROKland plans to de-rate the booster.
The deal price may end up higher after tax, with one report putting the total around $32 after tax.

I spent 5m trying to figure out the use case - mesh communication. Sounds useful for zombie apocalypse or if the government shuts down your internet during revolution/mass protest.
Similar to Jack Dorsey BitChat app that uses bluetooth mess?
