Samsung's 32 inch Odyssey G80SH stands out as a big 4K OLED gaming monitor that also works well for text and split screen work. The larger size feels more comfortable than 27 inch 4K for readability and multitasking, and the panel gets praise for strong color, deep blacks, and high refresh performance. The 98 watt USB C power delivery is a useful bonus for laptop charging. Main drawbacks are the very aggressive matte coating, weak or absent built in speakers and smart features, and some reports of Samsung support and return hassles.

  • The 32-inch 4K OLED size can improve text readability for extended work versus 27-inch 4K at typical desk distances.

  • The monitor can deliver 98W USB-C power to charge a laptop through the connection.

  • The matte coating can be a good fit for shoppers who prefer reduced glare compared with glossy OLED panels.

  • The G80SH model is described as having True Black 500 performance versus True Black 400 on a 27-inch variant.

  • The monitor lacks internal speakers, so external audio routing is required via HDMI, DisplayPort, or USB-C.

  • The matte coating can be very aggressive and may become hard to ignore on bright colors or from close seating.

  • The monitor may fail to turn on with a PC, and unplugging and replugging can be needed to restore operation.

  • The monitor is described as a pure monitor without smart TV features, a remote, or speaker hardware.

Interesting. no where on the specs do they list the speakers info
I actually went to their website and asked one of their 'experts', probably a chatbot but presented as a live human. Their response was 'no', no internal speaker of any kind. Cut and pasted the answer below:

"No, the Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 (G80SH) monitor, model LS32HG802SNXZA, does not have internal speakers.
According to official specification details from retailers like Abt Electronics and B&H Photo Video, this model lacks built-in audio hardware. However, you can route audio through the monitor by connecting external equipment:
  • 3.5 mm Audio Output: Pass audio from your computer through the HDMI, DisplayPort, or USB-C connection to a set of wired headphones or external desktop speakers.
  • PC Connections: Directly plug your soundbar, desktop speakers, or wireless headsets into your computer tower or laptop rather than the monitor itself. "

Not sure why this is getting so many downvotes. I'm just sharing my experience after using a variety of monitors for many years. I've used an HP Omen 32" QHD IPS as my main monitor for almost 10 years, an LG 27" 4K IPS as a secondary monitor for about 4 years, and a Samsung 32" 4K VA Smart Monitor for gaming. I recently upgraded to a Samsung 32" 4K OLED and am now using it alongside the Samsung Smart Monitor. I'm in my early 40s now. When I bought the 27" 4K LG in my late 30s, it was perfectly usable, but I had to run Windows scaling at 150% to make the text comfortable to read. These days, with some presbyopia, even 150% scaling on a 27" 4K display isn't as comfortable for extended work. In my experience, 32" 4K has noticeably better text readability than 27" 4K, while still giving you plenty of screen real estate. Younger users may have no issue with 27" 4K, and that's totally fair. I'm just saying that after years of using 27" QHD, 27" 4K, 32" QHD, and 32" 4K displays, my personal sweet spot is 27" QHD or 32"+ 4K. My desk is actually on the smaller side, and my viewing distance is just under 4 feet, so I'm not sitting unusually far away from the monitor either. Obviously, everyone has different eyesight and preferences, but this is based on my own long-term experience rather than just specs on paper.
I think the point is that you're giving advice to people that influences their decisions. If your advice is more specific to certain circumstances you should state that from the get go. People have debated size and resolution preferences and there are many that can tell the difference between 27 4k and 27 1440p. That's why people don't like generalized statements that only apply to some specific people.

I've been holding out for a similar monitor to this. Apparently in 2027 Samsung releasing a new panel type (that other makers also use) with higher refresh rate, a new type of pixel I think, and higher True Black rating iirc. This is probably super solid regardless, but just fyi that it might come down a lil more when that new panel drops (and it will prob be like $1,000 but tbd).

There's a difference between "27 inches is too small for 4k" and "I had a 27 inch 4k monitor that I didn't like"

27 is too small for 4K resolution
27 @ 4k is the perfect resolution for a lot of office/text related work (e.g. programming) on an OLED with their nontraditional subpixel layout, making text fringing less of an issue. 1440p @ 27" doesn't seem to be enough density to make the pixels not visible unless you're sitting far enough.

I went with the G7 with the 165hz refresh. It's got the glossy OLED and uses LG Display's WOLED panel also its cheaper. My 4070TI Super works fine at 4K 165hz.

I'm inclined to believe you don't do a lot of work involving text. 4k without scaling at 27'' is tiny for even young users. You either have the monitor way too close to your face or you're using scaling at 150% without realizing. 4k @ 27'' is a waste unless you just enjoy small display with high pixel density for gaming. For text, most folks will actually notice less clarity despite higher density due to scaling, and you'll essentially downgrade to a funky looking QHD with a 4k panel.

I have this exact monitor. I compared it with my other monitor LG 45inch 5k2k WOLED and My Samsung G80SH is absolutely better in color, Hz, and black. Hands down one of the best monitors I've ever owned. Crazy enough Samsung just announced a few days the upgraded version of the G80SH coming out Q1 2027, 32inch QD-OLED, 4K UHD 360Hz, 2K 540Hz, and 1080P 640Hz. If you can wait until next year I would wait but at $699 this is a great monitor. I ordered 2nd one lol

$680 seems pretty wild for this and a no brainer.
