This DeWalt FLEXVOLT 60 volt chainsaw stands out as a cordless 20 inch saw that feels close to gas performance without fuel odor. The bar length is a plus, and the saw can be paired with Oregon bars and chains when the pitch, length, and low profile match. Storage oil leaks come up often, though the fix is simple for some, since laying it on the chain side or draining the oil first reduces drips. Heat shutdowns, a snapped sprocket, and the need for another battery are the main drawbacks, making it a capable but not carefree tool.

Common Questions (4)

  • Laying the saw on the chain side can keep it from leaking oil, and some owners also drain the bar oil before storage. A few report only a couple drops from the sprocket area when the tank is not left full.

  • Yes. The bar and chain can be swapped with Oregon parts, and Oregon chains are reported to be better than the DeWalt chains. The replacement still has to match the saw's pitch, chain length, and LP spec.

  • It can stop when it gets hot and needs time to cool down before running again. Outside that, it is described as performing like a gas saw without the gas odor.

  • Yes, it uses a FLEXVOLT battery, so buying and maintaining another battery is part of ownership. That adds cost beyond the tool and case.

Found out that you can only buy Dewalt chain if you wanna do a change out, but there's a store in OR that can custom make you a chain if you need faster log cuts.

Did they figure out a way to keep this thing from leaking bar oil all over your garage, without draining out everything before storing?

I have the original 60V and the 20V, all you have to do is lay them on the chain side to keep from leaking oil. I thought I read the newer 60V are better, but I'm not sure... Stupid design either way, my gas saw doesn't leak at all.

Got one here. Bolt on the sprocket snapped last week on my current Dewalt. Perfect timing.

No, I just drain mine before storage. I do not have this but a smaller chain saw and a pole saw and they all have problems leaking bar chain oil.

That's not at all true. You can easily swap out the bar and chain with Oregon parts. That's what I did on my 20V Dewalt.

Yes, I did the same. The Oregon chains are much better than the Dewalt chains.

Oregon makes their bar and chain and stickers on dewalt branding if I remember correctly

I'm pretty sure I have this saw. It's great, as good as any gas saw and no gas odor. The only issue I have with it is when it gets hot, it stops working and I have to let it cool down.
