This DeWalt FLEXVOLT 60 volt chainsaw stands out as a cordless 20 inch saw that feels close to gas performance without fuel odor. The bar length is a plus, and the saw can be paired with Oregon bars and chains when the pitch, length, and low profile match. Storage oil leaks come up often, though the fix is simple for some, since laying it on the chain side or draining the oil first reduces drips. Heat shutdowns, a snapped sprocket, and the need for another battery are the main drawbacks, making it a capable but not carefree tool.

  • The bar and chain can be swapped using Oregon parts when matching components are available.

  • The saw can cut logs faster when a custom Oregon chain is sourced for the needed change-out.

  • The chainsaw can be stored with minimal mess when only a couple drops drip from the sprocket area.

  • The brushless cordless saw can perform comparably to a gas chainsaw without gas odor.

  • The chainsaw can leak bar oil during storage and may require draining or careful positioning to prevent garage mess.

  • The saw can stop working when it gets hot and may require a cool-down before restarting.

  • Replacement chains are not universal because the chain pitch, chain length, and LP must match the saw.

  • The bolt-on sprocket can snap on a DeWalt chainsaw, creating an unexpected failure risk.

Found out that you can only buy Dewalt chain if you wanna do a change out, but there's a store in OR that can custom make you a chain if you need faster log cuts.
you can use whatever chain. you have to find the matching pitch, chain length, LP, etc.

Did they figure out a way to keep this thing from leaking bar oil all over your garage, without draining out everything before storing?
I never leave my oil tank full, but I don't empty it. only a couple drops from I'm assuming the sprocket drips during storage. but never leaked leaked
