So this is mainly for travelers then? I'm confused how exactly do you use this? Is this meant to be used with the hotel's wifi or with your own phone hotspot? So this is only if you have 2 or more devices then? If you are traveling just one person, you can use your cell phone hotspot for your phone. If you want to use your laptop and use your cell phone wifi, you hotspot it. If you are with another person and say you have 2 other devices, say 2 different laptops, you can just use your phone as a hotspot for both laptops or devices right? I'm sort of confused the purpose of this? Is this mainly meant to use with a hotel or something? Does it have to do with multiple people using hotspot from phone but speed too slow? One thing I did thought about though was when you stay at a hotel or airbnb, you might want to bring a security camera with you to check on things when you are not there. Like say bring a wyzecam with you. In order to use it, you need to connect the wyzecam to an internet connection. Is that where this would come into play? So you connect wyzecam to the hotel wifi? Since doing this, when you leave the hotel or airbnb with your phone, well you don't need the phone's hotspot to make your wyzecam work? That way you can monitor your wyzecam inside your hotel while on your phone while you are outside? Thus similar to like how you use your phone while outside to check on your security camera like wyzecam while you are out?
Its mostly for traveling with multiple people/devices.

For example, instead of connecting everything directly to hotel wifi, you instead connect everything to the travel router, and the travel router uses the hotel wifi. You only need to do the hotel login portal one time, and it will then work on all devices.

Some hotels limit the number number of devices, so this is a good way to get around that. Also useful if you bring devices like gaming consoles or a firestick that might have trouble with the login portal.

No this is just a router. This is basically useful as a wireless bridge or router. You can plug this into a cell phone via tethering and allow everyone to share the data plan. but it does not include a cell phone radio. They do make one with a sim slot but it is about 350 dollars.

They most common use for travel routers are are wireless to wireless bridges. You content to the hotels/airplane/train/cruise network and then share that network with all your devices without having to log in each device. This can sometimes save money and also save time.

You can also use it as a router if the location you are going to has Ethernet.

It can also be used a a wireless Ethernet bridge. So if you have a device with Ethernet you can use it as a way to log on to a wifi network. In the old days when they were about the size of matchbooks and I would carry two and connect them to work as a wireless bridge/range extender. Now you normally only need one.

You can also use them to share files with your devices. If you have a collection of videos/pictures etc on an external drive.

You can also use it when tethered to a cell phone. Then share the connections with your other devices. This is slightly better than a cellphone hotspot in a few situations.

Okay so hotel limiting the number of devices make sense. However, why can't people just use their carrier's data plan then or hotspot instead? Is it because they would be using a ton of data if they don't have unlimited data plan like if they youtube and things like that? So if you only have say 5gb of data a month, then you could use most of it up youtubing right?

What about in terms of security camera? Would this help if you want to bring a wyzecam with you when you are traveling and at different hotels? Since a wyzecam needs internet connection, you connect it to your hotel's wifi? Then you can check your wyzecam when out of the hotel with your phone? Or you can still do this without this travel router? You can but it isn't that secure?

Can you look at the comment I made to the other user here? So it would be good if you travel to different hotels and want to bring a security camera like a wyzecam with you when going to different hotels? So that way you can check your wyzecam when outside on your phone? Would this help? You can still do that without this travel router right? But it won't be that secure?

Depends on the camera and network setup. Behind the router would help protect a wifi camera a bit. It would also help reduce setup time when arriving at a hotel/airbnb because it would likely already be setup to work with the router.

You just get there connect the router as a wired or wireless bridge and all your devices are ready to go.

I bought two of these to use a dedicated wireless backhaul in my house between where the modem is and where my office is.

I use the first in AP mode (ethernet to the main router) and the second is a client to that AP. It's connected to multiple devices on a switch.

It's powered by USB, has two 2.5GbE ports. I like that I only needed to plug a USB cable into an existing device without a new power brick to power it.

Runs OpenWRT (custom) out of the box.

They're sold as "travel" routers but there's no reason you can't use them the same way you use any other router. The only limitation is the size of the antennae.

So if you just bring a wyzecam to a hotel, you use the hotel wifi to set up the wyzecam and it takes a bit of time since you have to enter the hotel wifi password to it. So this takes some time. If you want to do this with this travel router, how are you reducing setup time? Since you going to have to enter the hotel wifi password to it anyway?

Say it's a hotel and you get the hotel wifi password for your hotel and this hotel password wifi is obviously different from say other rooms in the hotel.

Is this a necessity if you travel a lot and stay at different hotels then and want to bring your wyzecam security camera with you or not? Because either way, the setup would be the same? But using this would make the setup longer? But it would be more secure?

So imagine staying at 2 different hotels in 2 different weeks. You arrive at hotel with all your stuff. You set up the wyzecam in the hotel room before you leave to go outside. What's the difference doing this without this travel router vs with it? Does it save time? Or it does it use more time? It obviously is more secure right? Either way you need your hotel room wifi password since it has to match?

Then the next hotel you go to, you want to do the same thing. Reason is because you want to see what's going on in your hotel room when you are not there. What about that?

You could probably get a usb dongle that takes a sim and plug it into it?
