This 5 year AARP membership is mainly useful for stacking member discounts on things like Walmart Plus, hotel rates, rental cars, and occasional local events. The Chase offer can shave another $8 off, and the membership can extend an existing term. Some of the strongest value comes from recurring savings on Walmart Plus, free additional driver coverage with Avis, and hotel bookings that beat standard rates. The main caveat is that the discounts are not universal, email marketing can be relentless, and some rates can be higher than free hotel club pricing, so it works best when a specific benefit already fits your routine.

Common Questions (5)

  • The most cited uses are Walmart+ discounts, rental car perks like a free additional driver with Avis, hotel rates booked directly, and occasional retail or dining deals such as 10% off at Outback. Some members also use it for insurance-related benefits or local events, while others find the savings too limited to matter.

  • The AARP and Walmart+ accounts likely need to use the same email address, and following the AARP instructions can make the discount work. The discount has also been reported as limited to the first year for some accounts and tied to the delivery address.

  • Yes, if timing is flexible, because half-price AARP offers often appear from late October through November and can be paired with cashback offers like Chase or Amex. That can bring the effective cost below the listed price.

  • No, the marketing emails can be relentless, so a throwaway email address is a practical way to keep them out of your main inbox. The membership itself may be worth it for discounts, but the email spam can be ongoing.

  • Yes. The 5-year membership can add time onto an active account instead of replacing it, so an existing expiration date may be extended rather than reset. That makes it useful if your current membership still has time left.

I've been on the fence with AARP for a while now. I hear they sell your info like crazy, and that's where they make their money, not on membership fees. Can't confirm it, but it makes sense. I don't need any more marketing harassment than I already get. I hear mixed reviews about their discounts on things, though the Walmart+ one others have mentioned sounds worthwhile, if you're a Walmart regular. I'm not, but it might be handy.

$40 off Walmart+ yearly rate.
Walmart + has 50% every year during Black Friday & Christmas. So why bother with 40 when you get 50%?

You can only get that the first year. I've had Walmart+ for years now and I don't qualify for any of those discounts anymore. It's tied to my address. Changing credit cards and email doesn't work if you use the same address for deliveries.

My wife and I enjoy the Consumer Cellular bundle deal and the Walmart Plus discount which we use for an annual Paramount Plus streaming subscription. These two deals alone make membership worth our while.

Use a throwaway email address because the AARP emails absolutely will...not....stop. Ever. Until you are DEAD!

For the life of me I can never get this with Walmart plus. Walmart tells me to contact AARP and vice versa. Google searches did not help me.

I just started from here and followed the instructions. I do think they have to be the same email address. https://www.aarp.org/membership/b...lmartplus/
