This refurbished 14TB Toshiba enterprise drive is aimed at cheap bulk storage, but the current price sits well above past refurb pricing. The drive itself has a strong reliability track record in long running NAS and server setups, with examples of multi drive arrays running 24 7 for years and clean SMART health on a recent unit. Warranty support has also been handled through RMA for replacement. The main drawback is value, since similar drives were bought far cheaper before, and one drive from the seller failed after a little over a year with no warranty.
Common Questions (4)
This price is much higher than recent refurbished enterprise-drive deals people cite, including 12TB drives for $65-$75, 14TB used drives for $110, and 16TB/18TB refurb listings around $150-$200. Several comments frame the current deal as far above the older sub-$10/TB or low-$10/TB pricing they previously saw.
Warranty coverage appears to vary by seller and listing. One buyer reported no warranty after a drive failed a little over a year in, while another said the same type of drive was available from a different seller with a 5-year warranty for $299.
Yes, some have run continuously for years without issues: one setup with 8x14TB and 8x18TB drives from ServerPartDeals reportedly ran 24/7 for over 3 years with no failures. A separate Amazon unit of the same model was also reported with 6 years of uptime, 30 power cycles, 29 emergency head parks, and 0 bad sectors.
The RMA process can provide a replacement after you contact the seller and send a photo of the drive label. One buyer specifically made sure a replacement was coming rather than a refund after a helium-leak failure.

I have decided to just lower my use of HDD space by improving my own memory. Let's see where that gets me.
