Modding a Nintendo Switch has become pretty easy/cheap at this point. You buy one specifically to mod it and for under $250 you could have a mobile system that can play even dreamcast games

this is false. Patched V1, V2 ("Mariko"), Switch Lite, and OLED: These cannot be hacked via software alone. They require a hardware modchip (commonly open-source Picofly / RP2040-based or Instinct chips) soldered directly to the motherboard.
He never said that it would be modded software only. Just mentioned that you could mod it for under 250. This system is $156. Picofly is well under 100 to purchase on aliexpress. So, if you know what you're doing you could mod this system for under $250 easily. So, his statement isn't false.

Could you point me or link where's better to read about this? To avoid old or wrong information on that subject. Thanks!

They did say it was pretty easy though and if it involves soldering then it precludes that.

This is the first version, not the OLED?

I've added both my boys Switch v1 with Picofly. Used it for 2 years and sold it for a profit. This is cool if you are handy with soldering.

Get OLED. You can find them on FB Marketplace for around this price. I've owned V1, Mariko, all of them, OLED blows them out of the water. Then pay a professional modder to mod for $100. Some games like BOTW look so amazing on the OLED. The Switch 2 enhanced version is nice too, just so vibrant on the OLED.

You can certainly do it yourself, but unless you have experience with micro-soldering, don't even think about it.

Soldering the Pico Fly is not easy, requires Micro Soldering you will need a Magnifying Camera. Also the Pico Fly is $100? It's $14. Or did you mean $100 installed?

These are used, not refurbished. Seller is not authorized by Nintendo to refurbish their consoles.

I would not buy one of these just to mod it. There are better and maybe cheaper ways to emulate or play regular games. I liked PC handhelds, but right now it seems a terrible time to get one of those. A used laptop with a dedicated GPU can always be found cheap. I bought a 6800h powered mini pc for just over $200 new maybe a year ago. You can install batocera or retrobat to emulate just about anything you want. Wiis are still pretty solid for playing old stuff plus GameCube and Wii. The bonus is light gun support. You could also spend about what this costs, and you could have a MiSTer. I'm not trying to hate. If you want an easy solution to shut the kids up then there is nothing wrong with a Switch. Nintendo has great IPs.

He said "easy/cheap." Either or. Easy if you know how to solder, cheap (under this dollar amount) if you don't. The statement was pretty easy/cheap to digest.

Actually the implication here was for both. Why would someone say that it is either easy OR cheap anyway? Clearly the premise of the argument presented was about how accessible it was to do such a thing so it doesn't make any logical sense unless it's both.
