What makes you think so? 1GB seems like a good amount. The flint 2 is a very good router, lots of people like it, and it also has 1GB of RAM. It's a very popular model for running adblockers, etc.. https://static.gl-inet.com/www/im...251103.pdf

Why do you want to upgrade? That's still a great router. If it's working fine I would keep it. If you have faster than gigabit internet might be a good idea to upgrade.

I am wondering if there is a point in me spending this for this router or not because my internet speeds are well below 1gbps right now and I am actually "getting by": on a VERY ancient router, probably 15 years old. My more recent one stopped working after a storm. IO was wondering if even the RT-AX1800S would be enough, since this very old one has been half way decent. But then again maybe should get this one to futureproof a bit.

or maybe I should get a flint 2 or 3? I don't need wifi 7 so maybe could get the 2... That is if the flints can have tx power adjusted. Asus usually has that feature and I sometimes have to turn it down or my head hurts.

I think WiFi 6 is good enough for now, especially if you have internet speeds less than 1 gigabit. In your case since your router is 15 years old, first of all congratulations - you got a lot of value out of it! A new router would probably be best as it would get current firmware updates (I would be surprised if your 15 yr old router still gets updates).

Your 15 yr old router is probably running WiFI 4??? That's ancient. A WiFi 6 router would be an upgrade! Flint 2 would probably make you happy. Or any ASUS WiFi 6 router too! Good luck

I haven't been using it that long. It's just that my blue cave stopped working a year ago, so i stumbled upon this old one in one of my boxes. I think it is even pre-wifi 4. lol. I panned to just use it a week or two, but since it wasn't causing any major issues, I have just kept using it while trying to decide on another. Only thing with the flint is I have a ton of gift cards for best buy, so would be nice to find something they carry.

OK, sounds good. At Best Buy I think any ASUS WiFi 6 router would be fine. Be sure to check the WAN and LAN ports. If you only have gigabit internet speed or less, than 1 gig WAN & LAN is fine. But if you think you might upgrade look for 2.5 gig WAN and at least one 2.5 gig LAN.

ASUS and WiFi 7 is a bit of a crap shoot. For some people it works well and others have issues. So for now I think ASUS is a safer bet with WiFi 6 or WiFi 6E standards.

Best Buy also sells routers from Netgear, TP-Link and eero but I would not pick one of those, because they charge you extra for security features. If you are OK with paying a subscription fee every month to have security features ASUS includes for free when you buy an ASUS router, then go ahead! But I think that's a scam when manufacturers like Netgear/TPL/EERO make you pay $$ for subscription fees to include features that should be included by default.
