What is "smart play" and why does it make this set so expensive?

Its a gimmick that doesn't need to exist yet here we are. An excuse to charge even more for IP sets.

Ok, yes AND... this includes the new SMART brick that recognizes the build it's installed in and plays corresponding sounds on movement. The brick can be removed and reused on other builds. Essential? Nah. Kinda cool? Sure.

Exactly.

Everyone just wants to complain nowadays. Just don't buy things you don't care for, it doesn't mean everyone should agree with you. Everything is polarized now.

True, but just as many people pile onto people who complain. Especially on a site that promotes people post their opinions on items.

I totally understand why people are annoyed at these sets. It seems like most of the new star wars sets in the 40-80 dollar range release this year all have these smart play stuff put in. It seems to increase the price of the set by 10-20 dollars versus non smart play sets. And most don't even include the required smart brick to function. The functionality of the smart play seems like something out of the 90's/00's. It's really baffling to me that they thought this was a good idea.

True, but I think Lego also compromised design to make these smart bricks work for Star Wars. Just look at the chibi version of an x wing.

But I see the potential for it in the Pokemon sets.

SMART Play to Lego is the equivalent of what Scrappy Doo was to Scooby. Utter garbage that tarnishes the greatest toy of all time.
