I wish they made the same thing with metric sockets. Whenever I build things, I buy all metric screws, nuts, and bolts because it is so much easier. We should've switched to metric a long time ago.

Would recommend getting it from Lowe's today if you can. Same price and much better service / return policy.

Klein's 20 in 1 impact rated multi bit socket and screwdriver is a compact, adaptable hand tool that packs a lot into a small form factor. The build quality is described as top notch, and the handle can be reconfigured by removing two front sockets to reduce weight and change the length. The end socket has two depth settings, with a deeper hold for screwdriver bits and a shallow setting for nut driving or hex head screws. The main drawbacks are loose sockets and a shallow bit slot that can let bits fall out at an angle, so it feels best suited to compact utility work rather than fussy driving.

Common Questions (3)

  • Yes. The end socket has two depth settings: a deeper hold for screwdriver bits and a shallow setting for driving nuts or hex-head screws. Using the wrong depth can make bits feel loose or fall out at an angle.

  • Yes. Two front sockets can be removed to reduce weight at the nose, and the shaft sections store back into the handle. It can also be fixed at different lengths for a more adaptable setup.

  • Lowe's is the same price and offers better service and return policy. That makes it a practical alternative if you want easier returns or local pickup.

There are two types of countries in the world:

Countries that walked on the moon, and countries that use the metric system.
Do you really think NASA, a scientific organization, uses Imperial units? 😄 The Apollo missions used all SI (metric) units behind the scenes. Imperial units were displayed to the astronauts and the public because Americans apparently can't understand the simpler, more logical system.

This looks so goofy and is way bigger than it needs to be.

Meanwhile, the metric system was used to get to the moon, not freedom units

I have a klein stubby with the same socket at the end and it looks like the same system as this one. You can set that end socket to two different depths, one is designed to be a deep hold for the bits, the other is a shallow setting for driving nuts. It sounds like you had it in the shallow position. Their pictures for this driver also describe the shallow position.
Bingo, shallow is for hex head screws

The guidance computer most famously used SI units (metric) for its calculations but converted them to imperial for the astronauts who were former pilots and so more familiar with those units. But IIRC the basic engineering was based on "US Customary" units (aka US imperial), which I read caused a few problems with the German engineers who were key to the rocket program. NASA still uses a mix of metric and imperial AFAIK, but has largely been metric since the early 1990s and still uses only metric for all its guidance calculations

Are these bits JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard)?

Not being metric is a bit, not pun intended, of a deal breaker.

Not a huge fan of this screwdriver. The slot for the magnet was a bit too shallow for the bits, which made the bits fall out of the slot if used at a slight angle. I ended up buying another screwdriver.
Someone mentioned that it slotted for two depths, shallow for nut drive, deeper for the screw driver tips.

Mine arrived, it's actually not bad at all and if you don't like the additional weight on the front you can remove two of the sockets and the shaft recesses back into the handle and can be fixed at different lengths, so it's pretty adaptable.

I agree, but a reason they might not have done this is the top socket has to be the right size to hold standard bits properly.

I bought this yesterday, and it was delivered today. The build quality is top-notch. Now, if we can just get Klein to release more metric versions of their tools.
