This will on compact the soil more, you need to core aerate to alleviate compaction, pressing holes in the lawn adds to compaction. Plus pulling cores increases germination if your doing fall overseeding with cool season grasses.

i can just see someone trying to absolutely stomp this thing, hitting a large rock, the connection point on the item between the spike and metal failing and having a metal spike go flying through your foot. All because it was a deal.

I don't recommend this is you have hard soil compact issues. Mine bent bad after the second use. It will likely get damaged where the u- and the pole meet.
