This 5 cubic foot Insignia chest freezer is praised for quiet, dependable extra storage, especially in garages, dining rooms, and even as a keezer. It gets cold fast, stays frozen in summer heat above 100 degrees, and has enough room to ease overflow from a refrigerator freezer. Long term use looks solid, with reports of years of trouble free operation and only light frost buildup that is easy to defrost or scrape away. The main caution is that a similar unit failed after a couple of years, so durability may vary. A practical compact freezer with low fuss upkeep.

  • People wanting a low-maintenance chest freezer, because owners report years of use with only occasional defrosting and cleaning.

  • Apartment or dining-room households needing a quiet freezer, because it runs with only a small hum and periodic clicking.

  • Garage cooks storing bulk meat in hot spaces, because it keeps food frozen in garages that exceed 100°F.

  • Single-person households stocking sale meat, because the extra freezer space adds flexibility when the refrigerator freezer is too small.

  • Buyers expecting trouble-free long-term reliability, because a similar unit failed within a couple of years and another needed a capacitor replacement.

  • Households that cannot tolerate a freezer failure, because one unit stopped working and spoiled a large amount of meat.

  • People storing strongly scented game meat, because a power outage can leave a lasting odor that takes heavy cleaning to remove.

Oh, i already threw it away. By the time I noticed the freezer had stopped working, it had pounds and pounds of spoiled meat. I still have nightmares and gag to this day from the foul odor, when I think about it.
OMG this happened to us too! It was half a deer/venison and there was a power outage that tripped the breaker in the garage. It took full strength bleach to get it out and I swear the smell seemed imprint and last for months in my nostrils.

Bought one. Arrived quickly. Got cold real fast. Hope it lasts. I thought it would be on the smaller side but it is pretty roomy. I'm happy with this purchase.

I also own this freezer, it's been fine, no issues whatsoever. I defrost it maybe every two years?
