Proton VPN Plus stands out for port forwarding and strong torrenting support, with the sale also extending existing subscriptions without losing prepaid time. The student rate and a separate Proton Mail page offer can cut the cost further, and the deal can sometimes be applied to an active plan after logging in. The main knocks are price, since comparable VPN deals can run cheaper, and some reports of slower torrent servers, Linux app rough edges, phone overheating, and occasional service outages. A solid fit if those Proton features matter more than chasing the lowest price.

  • Existing subscribers who want to extend coverage without starting over, because logging in can keep the current plan active and extend the end date.

  • BitTorrent users who want faster transfers, because Proton can outperform general browsing and still reach high torrent speeds on non-torrent connections.

  • Privacy-focused users who want open-source apps and RAM-only servers, because the service uses diskless infrastructure, independent audits, and no-log claims.

  • Students who qualify for discounted pricing, because the annual VPN and Unlimited plans drop to much lower rates.

  • Shoppers comparing against a cheaper recent purchase, because the current two-year price can be far higher than earlier offers.

  • Linux desktop users who need a polished native app, because the Linux version is still described as not ready and rough compared with Windows.

  • People who need reliable everyday browsing performance, because Proton can feel debatable outside BitTorrent use.

  • Heavy torrent users who expect top speeds, because torrent connections can be throttled and have slowed sharply.

Vs windscribe?
Windscribe is based in Canada. They're one of the original "Five Eyes" countries.

True but since they have a no-log policy they can't turn over data they don't have. They utilize RAM-only (diskless) servers that wipe completely when power is cut so authorities walk away empty-handed because the data physically doesn't exist. They've already experienced real-world tests from server seizures and courts and won each time because there was no data. They go through reputable independent audits that prove the no-logs policy is enforced. And their pc/mobile apps are open source on Github for anyone to inspect for backdoors.

The only thing you could argue is that Canada could secretly force Windscribe to start logging their customers. The CEO has publicly and explicitly stated that he would relocate to another country if they attempted to do that. You can debate if he's trustworthy or not but trust is the whole issue with VPNs. You're trusting a business you don't know to protect your privacy and do what they claim. You're trusting they won't collude with govts. or secretly sell your info to advertisers or black market.

Simply being based in a non-Eyes country is not a magic shield. SplitVPN is a Russian based non-Eyes country VPN that claimed a no-log policy. They got hacked and it was found millions of connection logs and user info were stored. Independent audits, RAM-only servers, and real-world legal battles are far more important than being located in non-Eyes.

And yes I do use Windscribe. No VPN is perfect but I've been happy with them. You have to look at the whole picture instead of just location.

Sorry, I don't trust any VPN based in Canada. Their government is far too left-wing for me. While it doesn't appear to be a private equity-owned company, they are a member of the Five Eyes alliance. That means that Windscribe can be required to hand over billing records, IP addresses, and IP assignments if ordered by their courts. Obviously, they have SOME records stored about their users. Those records are readily available to Canadian authorities.
Windscribe is very transparent about what they do and don't collect. The stuff they do collect cannot be used to identify anyone https://windscribe.com/features/n...fying-logs

Never Stored: We do not keep this. Period.

Your browsing history or DNS queries
Your real IP address
The VPN IP address assigned to you
Connection timestamps
Session duration or per-session bandwidth
Any content of your encrypted traffic
.
.
.
Operational Minimums: The tiny amount we need to run the service

When you last used Windscribe (date only, not time)
Total bandwidth used in the last 30 days
Which app versions you've activated

These three data points cannot identify who you are, where you went online, or what you did. They exist to enforce free plan limits and troubleshoot app issues.

What am I missing here, this looks like a terrible deal. I signed up for 2-years of Proton VPN Plus just back in Dec for $47. This is almost double that price. And spare me the time machine comments, I'm using this to say that I would wait for a better deal, cause this ain't it.

FYI. Proton services are down. They were down a few days ago as well.

https://status.proton.me/

I can understand some downtime here and there. But having it down nearly back to back for extended periods is making them look like a clown show.

I did not buy this deal, but only because on my proton mail page there was a better offer for 1 year of unlimited (I in particular was looking for unlimited; the offer was 1 year at $6.99 a month, total came to $77.88 with tax).

I would link to the page but it was more or less a pop up from a button at the top of page. I will cross my fingers I can get another year just a smidge cheaper too Smilie

Sorry how is this a good deal? Seems like the normal price range. I think the reddit special partner deal is even cheaper than this?

yep! it kept what i had already paid for time wise active also. so i just extended mine till nov 2028
how did you get this to work? I cancelled but when i go to reactivate or subscribe it charges $119 for two years for Plus. It won't take the code VPNINTRO449349 either. Do you have to wait until your current sub expires and then goes to free and then you sign up /renew that way? I would really rather not create a whole new account to take advantage of this offer.
