I install cameras and I wouldn't waste my money on tapo
Why? And what would you recommend instead that allows for non-subscription service and/or subscription service?

Have 4 of these installed for over a year now. I've never seen them go below 80% battery even on cloudy days through the winter with late nights on full time recording. When using only motion sensor recording, they stay at 100% a majority of the time. They're also very reliable connection wise. Only issue I've had has been with the Tapo Hub (previous generation), which isn't needed for this. The hub's firmware updates sometimes cause issues on other Tapo devices that connect to it, so I don't recommend their hub offerings. Outside of that, Tapo's easily been the most reliable IoT brand I've used over the years.

Wouldn't pay this much for a Tapo. Decent cameras for under $50, but mine misses cars/people often.

Because he installs cameras for a living, and DIY installations hurt his business. 😄

Any comments on 4K vs 2K for these Tapo cams? Can you really tell the difference in video quality? Not sure the bigger file size is worth the bump in resolution.

I've only used the older 2K model and really don't have issues with video quality or solar charging, the issue is unreliable motion detection. I have it covering driveway and garage doors, it'll record car going out but not recording it going back in, or vice versa. Similarly, it recorded some turkeys walking by but missed me. Doesn't seem to have any pattern.

I have 8 tapo cameras and 3 reolink. Tapos are better at detection and just as reliable. This is a pretty solid price for a 4k battery camera. 4k vs 2k for tapo is relatively noticeable but this is the newest design and hardware. It's pretty beefy and worth it
