Buying ground beef in the US and not knowing where the beef is from... quite the gamble.

Community Reviews

This is a very cheap 80 20 ground beef deal that works best for stocking the freezer or making burgers, meatballs, and other everyday meals. The price has landed as low as $1 per pound with coupons, and orders have also hit the $25 grocery minimum for free Prime shipping by adding milk, juice, or other staples. Availability is regional and the max is 5 pounds. Freshness and quality have generally been fine, though there are concerns about unclear origin, packaging, and occasional tougher pieces.

  • Shoppers building a grocery order to reach free shipping, because adding regular items can unlock the $25 threshold.

    bubbagumper6CoolTree7215jms209dyangu

  • Burger cooks who want 80/20 beef for grilling, because it browns and tastes like normal store-brand ground beef.

    ShrewdLadybug742ctcsdKrysMarajh

  • Freezer stockers who portion meat for later, because the 5-pound packs can be frozen and used over time.

    ShrewdLadybug742skummPetSpy

  • Households that want a cheap bulk protein delivery, because 5 pounds has arrived for $13 to $15 delivered.

    Auztinsdenver

  • Shoppers who need clear meat sourcing, because the origin and country of processing are not easy to verify.

    Kid_Creme123NavyLeopard5516rocky2007bullgates

  • Buyers who need reliable cold-chain handling, because the meat can arrive in paper bags without ice packs.

    SDU23Theultra85SDU23

  • Families uneasy about food-safety uncertainty, because recalled imported beef and expiration concerns came up in the discussion.

    deedz2ctcsdugadawgs311

  • People who want premium ground beef texture, because hard cartilage-like pieces and excess liquid have been reported.

I mean, if you are one of those average vanilla consumers who eats up social media like it is the gospel, and believe everything you see / read, then no, absolutely not. It is full of poisons right? If you are like me and have well above average common sense, then it is going to be safe for a few reasons. One, Amazon is not going to damage its brand or face multi-million dollar lawsuits when people get sick and possibly die. If you do a simple Google search on Amazon meat supplier, you quickly see that 92 percent of its beef products were raised in the U.S.

So....don't believe "social media", but trust what's posted on Google.

Selling bad beef isn't going to damage their brand at all. Nobody will care; they will just stop buying the beef. People are too addicted to purchasing everything else and getting it the same day or next day. They already outsource all of their delivery drivers to companies who hire contractors so they don't have to pay any benefits, and they need to piss in bottles to hit their delivery quota and nobody cares.

The only thing that would damage their brand is if it was discovered that the ground beef was ground up human babies.

You know, now that you mention it, over the past week, I've seen a few water bottles lying on the side of the road with obvious urine-colored liquid in it. Dirty Amazon delivery bastards. Yuk

They use paper bags lined with foil and no ice packs. I wouldn't trust raw meat left out in those bags for a few hours.
My frozen items are delivered with 2 frozen water bottles. It's just Amazon purified water so not tasty, I'm saving them for our next hurricane when taste won't matter.

Must be regional dependent. I get Amazon grocery deliveries including frozen and refrigerated items all the time in the SF Bay Area and have never had any frozen bottles or ice packs added in.

I would order a lot of things from Amazon. Ground beef isn't one of them.

is the insulated bag they use good enough to keep meat okay for a few hours outside until I can get home to bring in the groceries?
I would say no. And there's always the possibility of porch pirates. At checkout, you can opt for delivery sometime tomorrow, Saturday, when you might be home. Half my order, the non-perishable items, are coming tomorrow.
I opted to add items to get to $25 for free shipping. I just HAVE to remember NOT to buy avocados from Amazon. Where do they get all the smallest ones? LOL.

They're already recalling some in Florida, but sure.
Here's what happened. "Nearly 30,000 pounds of raw beef products imported from South America have been recalled in two states because they entered the United States without undergoing a required inspection.Corte Argentino USA LLC, located in Aventura, Florida, recalled approximately 29,628 pounds of raw beef imported from Argentina, the Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced. The products were produced between May 15 and May 20 and have use-by or freeze-by dates of Sept. 15-20, according to the FSIS announcement. The problem was discovered during routine FSIS inspection activities." https://www.usatoday.com/story/mo...253506007/
