A few seconds in a mortar and pestle does the job.

Also good for making mustard at home. It's super easy, and whole-grain mustard tend to carry a price premium.

You can toast these in a pan (kinda like sesame seeds) and they are great on rice in Indian dishes.

Can't believe how easy it is and you can pretty much throw anything in the jar. Baby carrots, cucumbers, sliced onion, jalapenos, garlic... mustard seed, dill, black peppercorns. Haven't bought store bought pickles in forever.

if you can find one, a $5 coffee grinder on amazon will turn any seed into a powder. i have an Ovente grinder just for this purpose.
