How do these compare to the Bose 400 or Sony xm5? I assume they're not on the same level, given my experience with extensive experience of testing and then not buying Marshall guitar amps.
These are 6.5 years old. They were introduced in March 2020. They have limited support for the Marshall App and likely won't get future firmware updates or additional support. For noise cancellation, they are middle-of-the-road. Bose QC and Sony are superior and newer releases with superior technology, superior noise cancellation, and superior sound quality do not cost much more. The Marshall Monitor III headphones (the successor to the Monitor II) were introduced September 2024, so even those are about 2 years old at this point. This is BH trying to clear out new old stock, not a deal unless you don't have another $20-40 to get a much better, newer option from another company.
As for sound quality, Marshall headphones and speakers definitely have a different "style" to them. Hard to describe, but many say it is "brighter" and treble heavy. I haven't tested these myself, but reviews were just OK on them. The Monitor III headphones are a substantial upgrade, and they were recently available here on SD with an eBay deal at $170-ish, factory refurbished by Marshall.
