I've gone one step further. Dawn Powerwash is popular for two reasons. First and foremost, it works really well. The other thing is the nifty sprayer. I've been playing with different DIY recipe formulations...a lot. The homemade solutions can work as good or better than real Dawn Powerwash. I know there are Powerwash fans that don't want to hear that, but from my side-by-side tests it's true. My homemade version adds a concentrated degreaser, not just isopropyl alcohol, that's the difference from the basic home recipe.

What's difficult is getting the DIY solution to "spray" exactly like real Powerwash. My solution, make the copycat solution but scrap the Dawn sprayer. It's cool, but at the end of the day, it's just a sprayer and the effectiveness of the cleaner is all that matters. The Dawn sprayers are finicky because they clog easily or deform. Once they stop spraying right you might as well scrap them. The fix, just use any standard 32 oz bottle sprayer and adjust the mist to whatever you want.

Interesting. I've been tempted to add a splash of D-limonene to my mix.

I find that using 70% ethanol instead of isopropanol makes it spray more like the original recipe.

I've only tried 90%, but you may be right. So d-limonene is orange oil, makes sense. I use Oil Eater Orange degreaser because it's in there and very inexpensive to add.

Thanks for the idea. I'll have to give the Oil Eater Orange degreaser a try. It is significantly less expensive than the pure D-limonene I use, as I'm sure it contains only a small amount, but it contains a bunch of other stuff that's good for cleaning. While I'm slightly concerned about the safety of using industrial cleaners for dish washing, I don't see any particularly concerning ingredients on the list, and in fact most of them are also present in Dawn Platinum Plus.

It's a good product. It doesn't smell much like oranges, but it's safe and effective. Both Amazon and Home Depot have it for $10.90 a gallon (HD has a 10% military discount too).
