This Ridgid 18V starter kit stands out for high capacity batteries and unusually strong value, especially for tools that drain fast like blowers, shop vacs, trimmers, and rear handle saws. The 8Ah packs are described as beasts with noticeably better runtime and power than 4Ah batteries, and the included charger adds extra utility. The main caveats are weight and some listing confusion, since the pictures and box did not always match the contents. Registration for the lifetime warranty also came up as an important step.

  • Homeowners building a cordless tool fleet, because the 8Ah batteries deliver noticeably longer runtime and stronger power for blowers, vacuums, trimmers, and shop vacs.

  • Cordless tool owners who need backup charging during outages, because each battery set includes a charger and can speed up recharging when power is out.

  • Ridgid ecosystem users who want longer runtime without swapping packs, because the 8Ah batteries fit high-drain tools and extend use between changes.

  • Battery-heavy DIYers who want maximum capacity per dollar, because the kit works out to about $7.125 per amp-hour and beats a $10 per amp-hour rule of thumb.

  • Shoppers who need a perfectly clean, single-box delivery, because some orders arrived partial, in retail packaging, or with unclear prior opening.

  • Buyers who need a guaranteed complete shipment on the first delivery, because some orders arrived with only part of the kit before the rest showed up later.

  • Users who need a lightweight battery on handheld tools, because the 8Ah packs are heavy on blowers and wackers.

  • Owners who want hassle-free warranty registration, because the 8Ah kit can throw errors when applying for LSA.

I ordered very late last night, and I received a tracking number from one of those weird shipping companies (OnTrac)....deliveries questionable. I was outside to get a package one time and watched this kid toss it on the steps instead of giving it to me.
It currently shows shipped with a delivery of Wed.
So many retailers are using these on-demand courier services.

Essentially, the retailers make chunks of deliveries available, and the "100% independent contractors" bid on them. Lowest price wins. So you're dealing with people making pennies per delivery, often times in rural areas where traditional mailing like USPS, UPS, or Fedex are cost prohibitive (in comparison to these discount services).

You never get the same delivery person twice, they DO NOT read delivery instructions, etc. If it's delivered incorrectly (wrong address), you're stuck. Home Depot tells you to "take it up with the credit card company". HD does NOT care. Walmart and Amazon are better, and they make things right.

I did a ship to store and there is a tracked shipment on the move. Since the pictures and description didn't all match I figured if it isn't the 2x8 and 2x4+charger I can deal with it at pickup instead of FedEx and returns and what not.
Received notification that it has been shipped but is delayed... might use that option next time to pickup instead.

I got a partial delivery - just the 8s so far. Well, one email and text say my order was delivered, but one says partial.

What's odd, and annoying, is that the batteries were shipped in the original stock box. Luckily no damage, but I can't tell if it's been previously opened or not.

Only got 2x4ah+charger. Waiting for the rest of it before going to the store to complain.

Came shipped in a HD cardboard box -- not the bare product box like some others.

Several times I have had HD sent out items in the retail box. One was a Bosch sander which arrived almost entirely taped in clear tape. I could still reach in and pull out the loose stuff. Box was destroyed. They did give me a $20 gift card. It was one of those really cheap deals and it was sold out and took a couple weeks to go back in stock and get the price match. Second sander arrived inside a box. Several times ehen I get home, I am met with the item I ordered staring at me in the retail packaging inviting some porch pirating.

And HD doesn't care about porch pirates. HD to you: "Make a claim with the shipping company." Um, honey, we're not the ones who made a contract with the shipping company -- YOU did. They don't care about what we say.

Expect things to go in circles for DAYS. Be prepared to go onto Twitter for some public shaming @ their customer service handle. It's about the ONLY way I've gotten results.

You want HD to fix it -- they usually won't. You need your credit card company to do a chargeback. HD is one of the worst companies to deal with when it comes to customer service complaints.

And as soon as you do a chargeback, you get banned as a customer.

Order was scheduled to be delivered yesterday but it didn't happen for unknown reasons. It finally showed up at the door a few minutes ago at 10:02pm.

I received two products:
1) 8.0 Ah MAX Output EXP x2 + Charger x1
2) 4.0 Ah MAX Output x2 + Charger x1

I'm done with getting RIdgid batteries. I will stop buying Ridgid batteries...UNTIL the next slick deal comes along.

So the 4Ah batteries were the EXP variant as well? Not the regular Max Output ones?

My bad. I copy-and-pasted the 8Ah line. Corrections: NO "EXP" on the 4Ah.
