The CF-70 is a late 2000s Energy Connoisseur floorstanding speaker that still draws praise for strong sound at this price, with early listening reports calling it very good even while breaking in. The towers are also seen as a solid sub 300 dollar pair for shoppers who want the look of floorstanders, and minor treble equalization may help. The main cautions are that this is discontinued old stock, the brand ownership is unclear, and the cabinet is described as unusually deep and somewhat bright or closed in. A sensible budget tower option if the vintage fit works for the room.

From what I gather this looks like a closeout / final buy that Adorama got, probably because they sell so much Klipsch? These speakers came out in the late '00's, so 15+ years old. Subjective reviews call them bright, excessively crisp and closed in. Not particularly attractive and have an awkwardly deep cabinet. No wonder they are at blowout pricing.

I'd like to add I gather Adorama sometimes has sales on the Klipsch RP-1400. would that be a good match?
Generally not a good idea to mix subwoofer brands due to potential problems like phase or frequency cancelation. You're talking rear-ported vs front-ported, too. They're not all made the same and will fight each other.

Just sell what you have and buy 2 matching subs.

Are these a decent budget option for an open floorplan room with 20 ft ceilings? Used mainly for movies and gaming, not so much music.

Thanks for the advice, but I need to get it from Adorama; I have store credit there. And I already have an RSL 12s.
Yes you could get the rp1400 to work.
Is it a good(optimal) match, not really.

I would suggest just getting another 12s and use the credit on something else.
Especially if the credit isn't a large amount.

Maybe they are new production but according to this they were released in the fall of 2008:

They clearly have a typical '00's mid-fi design.

Was anyone able to spot a manufacturing date on the speaker or carton on any of the recent energy audio stuff from Adorama?

I have 2546XXXX, which should be the 46th week of 2025 based on what I could find.
This is for the RC 5.0 set though.

The Energy Connoisseur CF series, including the CF-30, CF-50, and CF-70, is an older speaker lineup from the late 2000s that has been discontinued for many years. So when a liquidator such as Adorama sells factory-sealed examples today, they are best considered New Old Stock (NOS): speakers manufactured years ago but never sold or opened. The "25" at the beginning of a serial number should not be assumed to mean 2025; it is not a straightforward production-year code.

Your AI response does not take into account all of the real-world people on SD that have addressed this ad nauseum in these deal threads.

Are you upgrading or adding? Next step up from the RSL would probably be an SVS 2000 series. If you are adding a second subwoofer, you would want another RSL 12s (which is already a great home theater sub!)
No, it would be the SVS PB3000 or PB4000 ... the 12S is roughly equivalent to the PB2000 Pro. A much better price-to-performance upgrade from the RSL 12S would be the Hsu VTF-3 or TN-1, or a PSA EV18C-M https://www.powersoundaudio.com/c...ts/ev18c-m

If you have a strong preference for the LOOKS of towers and don't want to spend more than $300/pr then these are hard to beat --- during movies it's your CENTER speaker that you're mostly hearing anyway (60-80% of total output, something that salesmen will never tell you because they want to make bank selling you costlier towers) so THAT is where you should invest the most, together with the sub. Open floor plan with 20ft ceilings = budget at least $800 for a PORTED sub, something like an RSL 12S at minimum. (If you never watch action movies you can spend half as much.)

Do NOT run a center speaker then - run a phantom center and put BOTH of those towers to use 100% of the time. None of my systems run a center channel anymore and dialog is much clearer.
