As another user said, you don't need all the extra stuff. Most people just press over a mug at home, so the parts are the two-piece plunger and filter cap. I prefer a stainless filter disc because I like more oils in my coffee.
IMO, the Aeropress is great for what it is. I find it easier to clean than a French press, though it really only makes one serving at a time. You're pouring very hot water into plastic, so some folks may not be a fan of that. Years ago, the Aeropress could be had pretty regularly for $15, and that's what I paid. I'm not sure I'd pay $35 for this kit unless you find real value in those extra pieces. You can probably find a barely used unit on Marketplace for $15 or so, since it seems the Aeropress is a gadget a lot of people think they want and quickly discover they don't use.
For those unaware but actually curious to learn, a French press is an immersion brewing method while an aero press is a hybrid of immersion and percolation. Most pour over methods would be just percolation. The combination of immersion and percolation makes the aeropress almost fool proof, and is the reason it has the reputation that it has as a great brewer.

I bought the Oxo Rapid Brewer after your post. I'm good with my aeropress most of the time, but having the plunger may be a plus for me. Thank you.
I like it because it's actually one of the fastest, least hassle-free ways to brew a single cup of coffee and clean up afterwards. Pour in the hot water, wait a couple minutes, push the water through, push the coffee puck into the trash, rinse and repeat.
That said, Coffee nerds like the Aeropress because it's one of the most versatile brewers available. You can do immersion brewing (like a french press), you can do percolation brewing (like a pourover/drip machine), you can apply pressure to get concentrated coffee (similar to an espresso machine), or you can can do any combination of the above and there's thousands of different aeropress recipes to experiment with.
I have an Aeropress go that I used as my daily driver until I got an OXO Rapid Brewer. It's less versatile, and harder to clean, but it doesn't require paper filters and with Lance Hedrick's "Zuppa Lungo" recipe is one of the fastest ways to brew coffee (no immersion time needed). If you do get an Aeropress for home use, it's better to wait for the full size version. This Go kit is great for frequent travelers though, even if you don't pack a grinder and scale like a true zealot, this is still going to produce way better coffee than any Hotel I've ever stayed at.
I think the Aeropress does have some advantages in terms of versatility and cleanup, and the "Go" in particular makes for a great travel setup. But nowadays I just want good coffee, fast.

It was the only one in stock at the Brick & Mortar while we were traveling through Montana so I bought it (I forgot to pack mine for the trip). It's usually $90+ which is probably a bit over priced, but I think it's a nice upgrade for our camping trailer. Everything you need is included, and all packs into a high quality travel-mug, that even has a magnetic slider on the lid so it won't spill, and filter storage on the bottom with screw cap. Fairly premium for an Aeropress product for anyone interested.
