Personally own this one that I purchased over 2-3 years ago. I don't think I have used it more than few (single digit) times. Agreed, too many parts and then cleanup afterwards..

I mean you don't need all of it. I don't use the scoop and usually store a few of the filters inside the lid with it slightly pressed up instead of bringing the little container. You just need the press, a filter and a cup. This just makes it a bit nicer to store in a bag for travel.

I'd say definitely worth it. Because you can press it down, you can really speed up the brew. Its paper filters are preferred because paper, somehow, takes out the acidity/oils within coffee that often give people heartburn. This also cleans very easily. Additionally, if you don't want to press into the included plastic cup, the press tube will fit over typical mugs. Lastly, the whole thing assembles into a compact form for travel. Enjoy.

I'm not a coffee snob by any stretch, but I rotate between this, pourover, and moka pot...just to give you an idea of my coffee tastes.

As another user said, you don't need all the extra stuff. Most people just press over a mug at home, so the parts are the two-piece plunger and filter cap. I prefer a stainless filter disc because I like more oils in my coffee.

IMO, the Aeropress is great for what it is. I find it easier to clean than a French press, though it really only makes one serving at a time. You're pouring very hot water into plastic, so some folks may not be a fan of that. Years ago, the Aeropress could be had pretty regularly for $15, and that's what I paid. I'm not sure I'd pay $35 for this kit unless you find real value in those extra pieces. You can probably find a barely used unit on Marketplace for $15 or so, since it seems the Aeropress is a gadget a lot of people think they want and quickly discover they don't use.

Other than the fact that these brew fundamentally differently than a French press, calling them "less sophisticated" when a French press is just coffee and water sitting in a cup together is pretty nuts lol

For those unaware but actually curious to learn, a French press is an immersion brewing method while an aero press is a hybrid of immersion and percolation. Most pour over methods would be just percolation. The combination of immersion and percolation makes the aeropress almost fool proof, and is the reason it has the reputation that it has as a great brewer.

This is absolutely the best coffee setup for traveling. It's lightweight and makes awesome coffee. All you need are the three pieces that make up the Aeropress and filters. My wife and I spent a month traveling around Europe last summer and made coffee every morning with it and it was great.

There's really nothing to this, and cleanup is ridiculously easy.
I use it the reverse way (grounds go into tube, pour water in, let it steep, then put the filter and screwcap on. The turn it over onto your mug and press.
Once done, just flip it back over, and in a few minutes you press out the now-cooled coffee puck into the garbage.

It's really so simple, and the coffee is great. Yes, you need to learn how to use it, but after 1-2 times you should get the knack.

If I may expand on your explanation:
The Aeropress is also actually a bit of an espresso hybrid as well, because the pressing process in its vacuum creates a few atmosphere of pressure. 👍

Hardcore Aeropress fan here, have a collection of every model released, and sponsored the Aeropress Movie. Today, I'd take the $35 dollars and get an Oxo Rapid Brewer. Been using these (I have 3) for both daily and travel for over a year now, and it has supplanted my espresso machines, Kalita pourovers, and Aeropresses as the most forgiving, consistent results with easy workflow and cleanup.

It's actually super simple, all you really need is the vessel, filter, and plunger. Rest is basically a cup, a spoon, etc.
Brew process is: add filter, screw on cap, add coffee, pour water, then plunge. Some variants in terms of recipes etc, but that's basically it. Ideally you have a kitchen scale too, but if that sounds complicated, stick to volume based recipes, you just won't have the most consistent brewing.
