The MF273dw is a compact black and white laser all in one that stands out for fast printing, wireless use, and automatic two sided printing. It works with AirPrint, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Android, and Windows devices, and the scanner is handy for everyday home or office tasks. Toner costs look manageable, with Canon 071 and 071H cartridges and cheaper third party options widely used. The main limits are that duplex scanning is not supported, the display and web setup can be frustrating, and Wi Fi can drop if it stays on all the time. A practical pick for light to moderate printing.

How does this compare to Brother laser printers? People of SD seem to like Brother more.
My wife and I bought a Brother monochrome printer maybe 2-3 years ago. It's a beast. My wife prints a TON for work... Have had zero issues and doesn't feel scammy like HP and Canon.

Solid printer all around for the Canon mf lines. Had the previous generations all the way back when they still included fax options via phone line. Never had issues with 3rd party, dirt cheap refills, and does the basic duplex printing and ADF scans just fine. The scan to computer can be finicky sometimes like not able to connect to the scanner, but when it works it works. Like someone shared, there is no double sided scanning through ADF, which also means scan to print (like making copies) will be limited to one side. Been the same for all the previous models (in this specific line) I owned.

The printer is ok. It's cheap crap, but sometimes that's all you need.
The display is complete garbage. You'll be configuring this through the web interface which may be a challenge for some.

It goes to this price monthly. That said, it's a strong printer, fast print times, smart phone compatible, duplex, scanner, etc. Toner is the 71H which is $35 as a compatible cartridge for 2500 pages

I think it will take generic toner but you won't get toner levels on the front screen or in web interface. You just have to wait till the prints fade out to replace.

I just want a printer that uses very cheap priced ink. Any recommendations? Tired of paying $70 for HP ink can't even by off brand cause they force you to get theirs

For those interested, this does not have two sided printing from the ADF. You have manually scan each side on the platen glass.
This has duplex printing but not duplex scanning..

Replaced my old brothers printer with this. My brother printer always had wifi issues staying connected. So far I like this cannon. It prints very fast, scanner is what you would expect at this price. Pretty easy to set up. Only complaint is if you leave it on 24/7, the wifi can lose connection sometimes. A quick off and on has fixed this problem every time. I decided not to update the firmware. It accepts generic toner replacement. I dont want that to change with a future update.

ditto, I finally ditched my thirsty Canon AIO Inkjet but I only used it occasionally and it always needed a cartridge. I got my Brother Wireless HL-L2465DW Compact Monochrome Multi-Function Laser Printer refurb direct from factory for $98 over a year ago.

Amazing price for a light weight b/w laser.

Please do NOT buy these for heavy use. Cannon stated duty cycle
"Recommended Monthly Print Volume: 200 to 2,000 pages"

If you are far inside that maximum, you might be fine. I have a client however that purchased 5 of these, and 3 failed within the first month when printing 800+ pages.

If you don't know much about printers, and you want cheap and reliable, Brother is all you need to know.

The Brother laser printers are known for reliability and cheap generic ink/toner. The interface is poor.

Still worth it?
Tons of china made toner available. Look at reviews. Sometimes they don't include the sensing electronic chip that counts pages so it doesn't work correctly or they expect you to peel it from your old toner and put in the slot on the new one to make it function. In some they use worn out drums that leaves streaks but others you can't tell from a canon cartridge.

Reviews are IFFY on this cheap thing/. The control panel also REALLY REALLY sucks! It shocks me how companies this large can still dish out such crap and still be successful.
