It's crazy how many videos and posts there are by flight sim gamers that say to stay away from this set.

I don't know. I think there's some group-think and keyboard warrior snob stuff going on. I've used the X56 for the last 4 years for Elite Dangerous and it's been perfectly fine. I did mod the throttle to add a "detent" allowing it to click on zero throttle in the middle, but otherwise it's been great. For $149 it's a good deal.

They say to save up for a virpil or vkb. For budget, they say to go even cheaper with just a $50 flight stick or even the thrustmaster 16000. But most compare it at $250, Ive even some that say even if its on discount its a headache to use.

My X56 didn't make it to 3 months of use. They're trash-tier and the only people that would recommend it are either people that think it looks cool and want to ignore the warnings or people that have no idea about the hobby and don't realize it's a toy, using the worst possible design (cup & ball with spring) and that for $140 they can get a VKB Gladiator Premium (which granted is not a HOTAS but does include a throttle on the base) that uses higher quality parts, a better design (pincer) and has a much higher build quality.

If you want to get by on the cheap, VKB Gladiator. It has a throttle on the base, but if you want to have a full HOTAS, add a Thrustmaster TWCS with the easy mod. That combo is so much better than the horrible X56, both in terms of quality, durability and control.

VKB Gladiator starts at $120 and has a throttle on the base, so it's cheaper. And it's also known for lasting forever, unlike the Logitech gear, which is known for failure rates.

Or maybe it's not group-think snobbery but instead former X56 users that got burned by the failures.

Anyone even thinking about this should visit r/hotas subreddit and have a look. No one that knows anything about flight sim gear would recommend this. It's a bad design, cheaply made, and mostly known for high failure rates. It's a trash-tier cheap toy masquerading as mid-range flight gear.

It's trash-tier and more known for it's failure rates than anything else.

Seems that the following is recommended by many MFS fans: VKB Gladiator NXT.

Like others have said get a VKB Gladiator and don't look back. You can change it to whatever joystick you need, they have a video that walks you through everything and on its own it has everything to get started. You can get pedals and a throttle later. They even post videos on how to maintain it and they sell spare parts.

If you are looking for entry level, buy a Thrustmaster Hotas X used or on sale. See if you like it and then buy a VKB. The build quality difference between creaky plastic and a solid well built stick is absolutely worth spending $300 for a stick and throttle (or dual sticks for space sims).
