Deal History includes data from multiple reputable stores, such as Best Buy, Target, and Walmart. The lowest price among stores for a given day is selected as the "Sale Price".
Sale Price does not include sale prices at Amazon unless a deal was posted by a community member.
I always assumed that the taxes were calculated correctly.
Not now.
Cannot trust Doordash.
I have no clue what they are doing.
I know much the sales tax is. The subtotal is after the promo codes.
On 2 of the 4 orders, the "estimated" taxes were still higher than they should have been even when using the higher deliver fee and the higher service fees.
Agree, which is why I buy the gift cards at 15-20% off, only do pickup (to avoid delivery fees), and wait until they drop 40-50% off coupons. If you look on the receipts they paid full price for the food, but you got it below MSRP. As long as you only purchase your food this way, you are actively hurting the company.
This $100 DoorDash gift card at $85 is mainly useful for trimming the platform's markup and fees, especially on pickup orders or when stacking with promos and rewards. The card has been redeemed successfully right after purchase, and it can help offset surcharges or make a pickup order cheaper than paying in person. A few caveats stand out, including order cancellations when trying to buy more than one, and a separate Sam's Club price of $80 for members. A practical way to stretch DoorDash without paying full freight.
Pickup-only diners who already use DoorDash for a favorite local spot, because gift cards can cover orders that end up cheaper than eating there in person.
Shoppers who want a discounted digital gift card for occasional large orders, because the card can be redeemed successfully and the lower price softens high fees.
Yes. They can be used on pickup orders, which avoids delivery fees, and they can also be applied to eligible merchant-specific promos; one example was a $25 promo that became $15 and worked on a $49.99 item listed as $50+.
Usually no. Multiple separate checkouts can still get canceled about 15 minutes later, and the practical limit appears to be one card per customer at a time.
Yes. Sam's Club has been listed at $79.98 to $80 for a $100 DoorDash gift card, which is cheaper than the $85 Best Buy price, but it requires a Sam's Club membership and stock can disappear quickly.
No. The tax calculation can change between orders, sometimes including delivery fee, service fee, or an unexplained extra line item, so it is worth checking each order carefully before paying.
Yes, redemption can work for more than one card. One purchase of two cards six hours apart was redeemed successfully, and another was redeemed immediately after purchase; failures may be tied to account or IP/VPN flags.
And kill the small businesses since doordash gets a big ole chunk of every order - 6% for pickup and up to 30% for delivery (not to mention their other fees like processing, marketing, tablet rental and on and on). This drives up costs for everyone, but we don't see it up front so it must be ok, right?
Restaurants still make money or they wouldn't do it.
Menu prices are inflated to cover a bunch of overhead that's dine in specific. The rent to be in a good location. Floor space to seat people. Floor managers, hosts, servers, insurance, the dish pit. A delivery order doesn't use any of that. It's food, packaging, maybe an extra person in the kitchen. It's why you can get the same sandwich cheaper off a food cart than sitting down at the place next door.
The problem for a lot of small shops is they look at the statement, see $800 in commissions, and read it as $800 somebody took from them. They're not comparing it to what it would've cost to seat those same people, or asking how many of those orders even happen without the app. There's nobody in the back office doing that math. The owner is the cook and also the guy fixing the walk-in at 11pm.
Meanwhile the chains ran these numbers years ago and just raised their delivery prices 10-15% to cover the difference between DoorDashes cut and their reduced costs from delivery. Small shops usually run one menu everywhere and eat the whole thing. So yeah, when a local owner says DoorDash is bleeding them, they're probably telling the truth. But it's more of a pricing problem than a DoorDash problem. Corporate at the big chains sure isn't complaining.
Customers are the other half of it. Nobody wants to pay what a delivery actually costs. $10-15 is about right. There's no route density like Amazon has, most of the time it's one driver going to one house with one order. But people are used to free shipping and will lose their minds over a $12 fee. So it gets buried in the restaurant's cut instead.
And DoorDash isn't exactly cleaning up per order. They made around $935M last year on 3.2 billion orders. That's like 30 cents a delivery. Profitable off volume, not off squeezing any one order. Nobody's making anybody use it either.

Can you use DoorDash credits on digital games? Thinking can buy this for the discount, then if you buy a game for $50 DoorDash gives a $15 gift card too.
So would be nice to essentially get a pretty good discount on a game.

Yes you can. I was able to do this for the $25 promo (updated to $15 now). YMMV but worked on star fox which is $49.99 even though it says $50+. It's good to use a state with no sales tax as your address (since it's digital) to avoid the taxes.
While their normal practices are abysmal you can game the system. I only use this for a taco truck I love. Prices aren't marked up. I always pick up my own order. I usually end up paying less than if I were to go there and order it in person

Thanks. I read all the comments because I had this question as well.
