I bought this unit, and it somewhat works. Has a number of files limitation, where it will not display my whole collection of MP3s, which is under 32GB. Maybe if you use FLAC or WAV, it would work well, as the number of files on 32GB would be less.
Also would not work on Bluetooth speakers that support TWS. It sends the signal as a Right channel muted.
I kept it because it is much easier to review new music just by adding songs to the SDXC card, rather than cabling an iPhone to a computer and opening iTunes to transfer the songs.
There's also a case to be made for those who don't want to impact the battery on their phone as well.
There are people who want to do everything on their phone and that's awesome. However, there are also people who prefer to break out activities into e-readers, digital audio players, etc. and that's awesome, too.
Do what works best for you.
Some people just like having a separate device solely for music, seem to find it less distracting or something. Not me, personally, just I have heard it.

IMO these devices dont just appear on the market unpovoked.
The rise of these may be in light of the "digital detoxes" that many young people are participating in
But seriously, I've ripped every single one of the 2,000 CDs I own, so I've got all those. Some of those aren't on any streaming platform I've ever used, so I'm happy I took the time 20 years ago to do that, and happy I no longer have to do it too often anymore as I don't buy too many CDs these days.
