The main issue with this rower is that the resistance is marginal and the inability to perform a full stroke movement. However, for the price it's decent and it's quiet enough for low intensity cardio while watching TV. If you're looking for resistance but also for it to be relatively quiet, then the moderately more expensive water rower for ~$50-75 is worth looking into. The air rowers are loud but also the standard will be priced least $500, whether used Concept2 or new Merach R50 Pro.

If you can, just get a Concept2. Or start with this, and if it takes (many stop rowing bc it can be miserable), then get a C2. Arguably the best (almost) full-body workout machine on the planet, especially with C2's support, competition, and community.

Expectations here are amazing. Why are people comparing machines that are 9 times the price of this one? I went ahead and picked this up and have had a few workouts on it. If you're a beginner or getting back into things, this is solid. It's nothing fancy, but it definitely works. And for the price, it's hard to regret the purchase.

I got my concept2 rower used for $400 with over 1M meters on it. Even at 15 yrs old it will outperform this piece of crap.

Don't settle. Getting a crappy rower like this will leave you heavily disappointed.

I had an offbrand one back in the day. Got a few months use of it before I decided it wasn't for me. I was able to sell it used easily. It's good to get an entry level one if you're not sure you're committed.

Seems the problem is that if someone starts with a bad rower, they're more likely to quit and never give a quality one a chance. Then again, with rowing machines, many will hate it no matter what the quality, but will stick with a good one because it's durable and yields a great workout.

I get that. But I tried for years to like a rower and used very expensive ones at my gym. Hated them all. It just wasn't an exercise I enjoyed. But I know it's a really good exercise. Figured I would give it a shot. I'm happy with the purchase. I'm not trying to convince anyone that this performs like a machine that costs $1k. I'm just saying that if you're interested, and $1k is a barrier to entry, this could be worth a shot. And if you hate it in a year, you're not out that much money.

Kudos for sticking with it. I'm at over 17.5MM and still don't like it much. FYI, anyone who's in at least a semi-urban area should be able to find a good used C2 for $500 or less if they're not in a big hurry. BTW, many gym C2s I've seen are so beat up and poorly maintained they're arguably worse than cheap rowers.
