The online consensus is Beryl 7. I don't have experience with the Slate but I just received and setup my Beryl 7 and it's plenty capable as a travel router. I have had it connected to an Xfinity hotspot by my house since yesterday morning with all my travel devices connected to it and it's been holding the connection steady.

it's a good idea but look at this router's power specs. not sure whether airplane power outlets can provide it

Yep, 6 Ghz (Tri-band) is even more valuable for travel routers than home routers because of wireless congestion at hotels, events, cruises, etc.

Just wish the Beryl 7 came in a neutral color, not that mint green.

My only complaint with Beryl 7. It's a baffling choice they made with the coloring.
