Given that they haven't considered it worthwhile so far and Star Trek isn't exactly at a high point now, unfortunately no time soon I think.

Probably never. Think I remember hearing that the TNG HD remaster they scanned the film and re-did the special effects for didn't sell as well as hoped. And that was a more popular series than DS9 and Voyager were. Too expensive to do for probable lackluster sales.

Maybe an AI-assisted remaster would now be possible and be much less costly. I'd totally re-buy everything in HD.

I was wondering the same thing. Fandango has been known to upgrade purchases for free if a higher quality version is released later down the line.

How is the quality of this show in SD?

Fandango and Apple never upgrade TV series. Apple never offers free upgrades from SD to HD. Fandango only gives random movie upgrade from HD to 4K.

Quality is probably the same as DVD.

I don't know if you saw "What We Left Behind" documentary. There was a remastered footage of the battle to take back DS9. It looked clean and sharp, but I felt it got too artificial in terms of color. I don't think I like AI-assisted remaster. I believe one of the TNG season had the Blu-ray redone. If cost is the issue, I always wondered how boutique studios are able to do 4K releases.

Apple has started very limited TV series upgrades from HD to 4K. Was nice to see Mad Men get upgraded to 4K in my own library.

The ds9 tribble episode included in the original series blu-ray set looked incredible. Wish there was more.

I didn't know that. I hope Apple will include Game of Thrones for free 4K upgrade. Apple never upgraded any SD. I had some old Blu-ray digital code (the ones with just numbers) redemptions that registered as SD in Apple and relayed to MoviesAnyWhere as SD. I wrote to Apple and MA and they refused to upgrade them to HD.
