North face backpack quality has gone downhill imo. Last few backpacks I've got from them have been putrid trash.
No different in quality than cheap Amazon no name brand backpacks.
It looks like the Borealis backpack is where you want to start from if you're looking for a baseline of quality& contruction (see youtube review below).
For reference, here's the ai summary direct from Youtube:
Materials and Construction: The Borealis is built with durable 210D ripstop nylon, whereas the Jester uses a lower-quality 600D polyester (0:26-0:34).
Hardware: The Borealis features reliable YKK zippers with pull tabs, which are more secure than the SPS zippers found on the Jester (0:36-0:43).
Ergonomics and Comfort: The Borealis includes superior lumbar support with extra padding and a thicker, more flexible stiffened backing board (1:06-1:30). Additionally, the shoulder straps use flex strips that adapt to different body shapes and layering, unlike the fixed straps on the Jester (1:45-1:54).
Specialized Features: The Borealis includes functional upgrades like a dedicated laptop compartment, a waist belt to reduce swaying, an underneath compression strap for attaching gear, and a fleece-lined front pocket for protecting electronics
Important to note that this bag uses lower tier materials (especially the zipper) than other TNF bags. Will be fine with light to medium use, but may fail with heavier use.
I bought this bag from Macys on a super special ($30) and returned it buying instead a Surge for a lot more. I like deals but not at the expense of quality.
