It makes both the plunger and the snake look like ancient technology.
As you probably know, plungers suck to use when the bowl is nearly overflowing. The bulb on the end of this doesn't create that bubbling air pocket you get with a plunger. Plus, it's smaller, so it doesn't displace as much water.
Snakes are never fun to use. They're annoying to store, annoying to clean, and take the same amount of effort regardless of how simple the clog is. Not to mention, improper use can scratch your bowl.
With this, the biggest annoyance is having to pump it up. Or, for the electric version, it's a little noisy while charging. But it operates on minimal effort otherwise, making it good for people who can't operate a standard plunger well.
Because the power is variable, you can use it on different types of drains just by changing attachments. No need to fold in the rubber flange (yes, you're supposed to fold out the flange for toilets) like a traditional plunger requires.
You shove the bulb in the drain and then do a small flush to get water covering it. The water displaces any blowback.
Where you DO have to be careful is with unclogging sinks that have a overflow drain.
If you don't put a rag over it, your mirror will look like a Jackson Pollock painting.
