T-Mobile Fiber is a straightforward home internet option best known for low introductory pricing on 1 gig and 2 gig service, with some installs also including free eero hardware, gift cards, and multi year price locks. The fiber service is often described as symmetrical, fast enough for streaming, gaming, Zoom, and heavy uploads, and some installs even over provision above the advertised speed. The main concerns are availability, CGNAT on some setups, and uncertainty about whether price locks will hold. Installation can also involve trenching or drilling, so local build quality matters.

  • Households uploading large files or videos, because the symmetrical fiber plans can deliver equal upload and download speeds.

  • Remote workers needing a fast home connection, because the service has handled telework, Zoom, and work-from-home use adequately in some homes.

  • Families with heavy streaming and gaming, because the connection has supported multiple people using those activities at once without major complaints in some homes.

  • Shoppers wanting a simple 300 Mbps plan, because it has worked well and can speed up to around 500 Mbps.

  • People who need a routable public IP for hosting or remote access, because CGNAT can be a dealbreaker unless a static or bridged setup is available.

  • Buyers who need a price guarantee they can trust, because the company can change service names and price-lock promises may not hold.

  • Competitive gamers, because the service can be laggy and was described as not ready for gaming yet.

  • Homes where outages would be unacceptable, because the service has been down for entire days across multiple separate outages in one area.

Go to a corporate store. You will need to pay a deposit and provide government ID.

Not available in most places... Plus T-Mobile has been pretty anti-consumer recently (i.e. not honoring their price locks and price guarantee) So i am not sure how good of a deal this is. AT&T has 1gb for $50 bucks +200 back as cash card. Sounds like a better deal to me...
But they were the "good guys" it was okay for them to violate Net Neutrality with Binge On and buy Sprint!

Are there any Fiber providers that don't use CGNAT? I'm pretty sure it can cause issues for some Internet providers using mesh systems like TP-Link Deco's. I want to like this, but there's so many different options and issues with some providers. Having to pick from TMobile, Race, AT&T and Frontier is hard with most companies treating thier customers like garbage. Can anyone comment on them?
Can you explain what this means by static ip? Like we can't use a vpn?

Curious if you know whether T-Mobile and AT&T Fiber actually share the same "endpoint" fiber line to your home, or if they have separate lines?
T-Mobile fiber for me is buried fiber and AT&T was installed months later via Telephone polls so fast we never knew it was installed. The only reason AT&T exists in my area is because T-Mobile installed fiber.

T-Mobile bought out Metronet. I signed up for Metronet when I bought my house 3 years ago and have been very happy with the service.

$70/month gets you 1Gbps symmetrical speeds on CGNAT. They provide you with a "free" Eero 2pk mesh for 1 year (mine was the 6E pro), but then start charging you for the Eero hardware. I already had my own equipment, so I was able to return it at no cost.

$10 extra per month will get you a static public IP, so you can host your own server (I use it to host a Minecraft server for the family).

FYI, the 2Gb plan isn't 2Gbps symmetrical. It's 2gig download, but only 1gig upload. At least, that's how it is with Metronet.
On MetroNet that might be correct but ours is a brand new T-Fiber\Lumas install. So our 2Gbps plan is over provisioned meaning that it will download and upload at 2250Mbps as many times I as run the test. At time of installation we requested a bridged router which disabled CGNAT and gave me a free IPV4 address. It should be noted that ironically when you go with the bridged option you get only an IPV4 address as it completely disabled IPV6.

Who here actually has that flexibility? I've never seen that before for residential service (having one fiber line and getting to choose who your provider is), but doesn't mean there might be some area that has that.
I have all kind of choices... There is a local company USI 300mb-10gb fiber (yes I could get 10gb at my house for 500 a month lol), then Quantum moved in and gave me $30 a month price for life (as long as I don't move or miss a payment) for 1gb, t-mobile offered me $70/month for 2gb, I know Century link is around not in my area yet, and at&t as well. But I'll stick with Quantum... it's been very solid for very cheap. Twin Cities, MN

This is only for people who don't have internet providers in their area right?

So if you have say verizon fios and spectrum available in your area, then most don't use this right? It cost $35 per month autopay and it being 300mpbs is more than enough speed for most people right? Very few people need 1 gig or 2 gig speed.

Do some people get this as a 2nd backup internet for their apartment or almost nobody does that?

Happens to be available in my area. I used this to negotiate the price on my cable internet. I always check prices before making the yearly call.
