T-Mobile Fiber is a straightforward home internet option best known for low introductory pricing on 1 gig and 2 gig service, with some installs also including free eero hardware, gift cards, and multi year price locks. The fiber service is often described as symmetrical, fast enough for streaming, gaming, Zoom, and heavy uploads, and some installs even over provision above the advertised speed. The main concerns are availability, CGNAT on some setups, and uncertainty about whether price locks will hold. Installation can also involve trenching or drilling, so local build quality matters.

Common Questions (5)

  • The fiber service is symmetrical on the standard plans, and the 300 Mbps tier has been reported to speed up to about 500 Mbps in practice. The 2Gb plan is not always symmetrical on every network build: some installs provide 2Gb down with 1Gb up, while newer builds have reported full 2Gb up and down or even slight overprovisioning.

  • Some signups include a stated 5-year or 10-year price lock, but the lock has been questioned because T-Mobile can reportedly change service names or otherwise alter billing terms. The practical takeaway is to verify the exact written terms before relying on the promo price long term.

  • It can work well for streaming, Zoom, and general telework, but gaming and authentication-heavy work setups have been reported as problematic on some T-Mobile home internet setups. Newer fiber installs may be better than 5G home internet, but one higher-up reportedly said the fiber service was not ready for gaming yet.

  • The service can use CGNAT by default, which is a dealbreaker for some users. A static public IP is reportedly available for about $10/month, and requesting a bridged router can disable CGNAT and provide a free IPv4 address, though IPv6 is then disabled.

  • Installation usually involves running fiber from the neighborhood hub to the home, which can require trenching or underground conduit work and sometimes drilling into a wall or garage for the ONT. In some neighborhoods the crew used junction boxes and underground tubing, with minimal yard disruption beyond the entry point.

Yes, at least for Aurora, Colorado I don't see how we can have fiber in existing neighborhoods without digging up streets and good luck with that. I think Aurora might be stuck with coax forever. If there was a fiber provider, ANY fiber provider, I would say please switch to it as long as the pricing is competitive.
Well, they don't have to "dig up street" to add infrastructure, doesn't even run under the street generally.

Unlikely to be able to pick and choose your fiber provider, if you can get fiber at all. I'll take any company just to have it.
Exactly right....

The whole city of Aurora has banned any new "unsightly" wires on poles. Existing ones are allowed but no new ones so if fiber doesn't already exist, it will have to be trenched. To me it sounds exactly like a gift to Comcast Xfinity...

I don't recommend their 5G home Internet.(it suggests that if fiber isn't available) Doesn't play well with work from home authentication and gaming is super laggy. And I have a cell tower a few blocks from my house and still had issues
But John Dorian (J.D.) and Christopher Turk say it works great in the commercials... 🤣

May not be available but here were it may be California: Oceanside, Palmdale* Colorado: Aurora, Broomfield, Colorado Springs, Littleton, Pueblo, Westminster, Windsor* Florida: Miami, Orlando, Tampa Bay, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Naples, Daytona Beach, Melbourne, Ocala, Pensacola, Port Charlotte* Arizona: Casa Grande, Glendale, Prescott* Alabama: Birmingham, Montgomery* Arkansas: Bentonville
They purchased Lumos and rebranded it to T-Mobile fiber where I'm at. They're doing a pretty extensive build out here in St. Cloud, FL. They just finished my neighborhood so now I can pick between Quantum fiber (AT&T), T-Mobile fiber and spectrum (though this is coax)

T-Mobile bought out Metronet. I signed up for Metronet when I bought my house 3 years ago and have been very happy with the service. $70/month gets you 1Gbps symmetrical speeds on CGNAT. They provide you with a "free" Eero 2pk mesh for 1 year (mine was the 6E pro), but then start charging you for the Eero hardware. I already had my own equipment, so I was able to return it at no cost. $10 extra per month will get you a static public IP, so you can host your own server (I use it to host a Minecraft server for the family). FYI, the 2Gb plan isn't 2Gbps symmetrical. It's 2gig download, but only 1gig upload. At least, that's how it is with Metronet.
It's not the same everywhere, newer build outs will likely get XGSPON (which is what they recently finished building out in my neighborhood), legacy fiber networks like yours run GPON (which is why the fastest speeds are 2Gbps/1Gbps). I currently have quantum (ATT) which is running GPON and pre-ordered T-Mobile fiber because they're running the newer stuff

We just got fiber in our neighborhood and it's actually pretty cool how they installed it. They tunnelled conduit underground and then ran the fiber through it. No torn up streets or yards! The only digging in our yard was when they had to install the junction box.

We just got Mint Internet and it's been great. Faster than the Fios it replaced. No issues even during peak evening hours. It really depends where you are.
How much are you paying for Mint? I did not know TMobile had fiber. Recently, Fios has intermittent issue.

Not available in most places... Plus T-Mobile has been pretty anti-consumer recently (i.e. not honoring their price locks and price guarantee) So i am not sure how good of a deal this is. AT&T has 1gb for $50 bucks +200 back as cash card. Sounds like a better deal to me...
I can definitely agree with you as they have jack up my T-Mobile One's plan price 2x in 2 years. I actually live in Ocala FL(the shores area) and they laid fiber down a few weeks ago, Oddly a year and a half ago Quantum/CenturyLink also laid fiber down. However, I'm sticking with my long time Comcast/ Xfinity service , even though I heavily despise them, I signed up for there Xfinity NOW internet a few years ago as an early adopter and I only pay 20 bucks vs 30 a month. That includes all taxes, fees, modem rental, peacock because I'm a diamond member and unlimited data, with no slow downs. Albeit I'm only at 100 mbps.

I'm a slick dealer I need unlimited at the lowest price possible T mobile can kick rocks at $35 plus tax and fees. Netflix, Philo,YouTube, Peacock and Disney+ only needs 5 mbps each in my house So you'll have to pull this plan out of my dead cold hand.
