DEWALT's 20V MAX 1 2 inch impact wrench is a high torque tool aimed at stubborn fasteners, with enough muscle for most everyday jobs and extra headroom when extensions or swivel sockets soak up power. The 900 model is described as plenty capable, while the older 899 has held up well for years. The main caveat is size and force, since the heavier high torque models can be tiring and may be more than needed for lighter work. It reads as a strong fit when compact convenience matters less than raw breakaway power.

Common Questions (4)

  • It can handle many high-torque fasteners, but very stubborn or larger jobs may need a step up to a 3/4" tool, breaker bar, or heat. Extra torque also helps when using extensions or swivel sockets that reduce effective power.

  • The DCF900 is not DEWALT's most powerful 1/2" impact wrench, but it is enough for most tasks. It has been described as handling typical automotive and general fastening jobs well, with only unusually stubborn fasteners needing a larger tool.

  • A smaller impact or a big wrench and breaker bar can still be better for consistent torque work, while this tool is mainly for high-impact removal. The 899 is also described as lighter and easier to handle than the 900.

  • The listed $199.99 price has been described as the standard going rate for about a month, and it was reportedly $194 the week before. That makes it a normal-price listing rather than a standout discount.

This is the most useless tool in my collection. It is powerful too powerful for average people. If anything you might break your nuts and bolts.
I got a HF electric impact a few weeks back for $34 (return bin). 96% positive review. It was rated at 300 ft-lbs. Added grease and tested for maximum torque. This tool was able to remove a fastener torqued to 575 ft-lbs (original power cord). The use of a 50 ft 14 gauge extension cord shouldn't affect performance since the tool is rated at 8.5 A 120 VAC.

It's important for me to get feedback when removing high torque fastener. 1/2" or 3/4" breaker bar up to 300 ft-lbs. Step up to oxy torch if fastener won't move.

But don't those start to explode when putting massive power into 1/2" impact sockets and converters?
Swivel won't last long with any impact. Use an oxy torch if access is a problem. It takes a few seconds to reach cherry red temp.

What would he do with the 130 batteries and 27 charges he's purchased from slick deal sales if he were to use a breaker bar?!

Great price. I own the 900, for anything that it does not break on it requires consistent torque which impacts will never bring. Nothing replaces a big wrench and breaker bar. My argument is the 899 is a better weight and size over 900.

961 never goes on sale...😥
I have the 900 and the atomic 1/2 at home and we have those and the 961 at work. For really big stuff were your using a 3/4 adapter and its tight the 961 is the cock-fer-dolly but she's a heavy heavy beast. Im 43 yo but 6' 2" 200# and its hard on my shoulder and elbow using it. The 900 is a little better to use but 95% I use the atomic 1/2. If I remember its got 400 fp torque and the covers most things in a impact driver size package. If you can watch and wait it can be found around $130. Its a great value and pleasant to use. Just experience your milage may differ. Check out the astro pneumatic thicc boy extensions to make full use of the torque of the high torques.

I have the atomic and it's definitely a go to. Also have a Ryobi high torque, just want the beast. Getting a tractor soon so I think it'll be nice to have around.
