I have this or one like it, you'll have to find some way to seal where the handles screw on better because water leaks through it and gets your griddle all rusty.

I have the 36" and it seems to me that the vinyl cover is necessary for these. I don't have a lid so I just place a box on the griddle plate and put the cover on so that rain rolls off instead of pooling up there and it has been working well. I'd still cover it even if I eventually buy the hinged lid.

Exact same strategy I use for my 28". usually put the stack of disposable aluminum grease traps on top before the cover
