Community Reviews
The Onkyo TX RZ70 stands out as a flagship 11.2 channel AVR with strong real world performance, Dirac Live standard, and upgradeable room correction. It is praised for plenty of power, solid build quality, modern HDMI 2.1 compatibility, and testing that appears to beat its published specs. The main hesitation is value, since the RZ30 and RZ50 are often seen as close enough for far less money, especially if you already use external amps or do not need future Dirac ART support. Its 19 inch depth and Adorama return terms also deserve a look before ordering.
Listeners driving demanding speakers in larger rooms, because the built-in amplification is described as a significant power upgrade with plenty of channels.
Owners replacing an older receiver for newer streaming and HDMI features, because the newer platform adds current apps and modern connectivity.
Home theater upgraders using PS5 or other modern sources, because it passes 4K at 120Hz and VRR that older receivers cannot handle.
Room-correction tinkerers who want calibration inside one app, because Dirac Bass Control reduces the need for REW and MSO.
Budget-focused theater builders who already get good results from a lower model, because the RZ30 is described as delivering nearly the same performance for far less.
Calibration hobbyists who already use REW and know their setup well, because there is little reason to switch just for room correction.
People planning to add external amplification, because the RZ70 is said to offer no advantage over an RZ50 on external amps.
Owners with shallow cabinets, because the receiver is 19 inches deep and can stick out the back.

What is widely considered the best TV's...typically Sony flagships according to Value Electronics and HGTV test are still high priced. Commanding about a 30% premium over other brands
Whether or not you think the fine details of their evaluation, is worth the extra, is in the eye/wallet of the buyer
High end audio really hasnt gone down either..Speakers, especially on the higher end have gone UP in price
What we dont see is the massive discounting of the what I would call the mid to lower mid range Asian brands like we used to
That hasnt happened since Covid
Remember all those Fry's deals that used to pop up and make front page here
Denon 3XXX series $499, Denon 4XXX series $699, Pioneer LX701 $699 etc
All less than 50% of MSRP
I bought a few at those prices

All the models used to get replaced every year
So when you have a new model every year , there will always be some discounting
We are, imo, an unprecedented time when we have several year old models like the Onkyo RZ50 that have been around for 5 years
That never used to happen..it was always 1 and done with models of all brands in that range
If not turned off by the $1500 ask, I'd put that towards an AVR that CAN do Dirac ART!
The best most smartest thing to do is first room treatment.
Dirac is a game changer VS what your 830 offers.
Next up is your 830 doesn't support HDMI 2.1
Features and benefits only matter if utilized.
You probably own the 830 outright so if dropping $1,650
on a newer AVR makes sense of course this is a definite upgrade. A $1,500 one? That remains to be seen.
New? Refurbished? What year?

Very likely going to cost much more than this & you'll have to add another $600 on top of that.
Having ART on my 3800(& set up others), for most, not really worth it.
Especially if you built your system on this price to performance belief that your sub(s) can do all the work.
ART is an add on/extension to Bass Control.
No different than Bass Control is the same to Dirac Live.
Bass Control does most of the work anyways.
If at least your base layer speakers aren't reference level, ART isn't worth it ime.
It's recommended that at least those should be for a reason.
Not to mention 4 subs is also recommended.
If you notice, any unit offering ART access has this requirement.
I would add that you should at least have 2 reference level subs.
These budget friendly price to performance ones won't cut it ime.
Most people don't fall under this threshold.
