Don't get me wrong 2k is a low dose for some one with a deficiency anyway. It's not life changing from the 1k you mentioned that's in many multi vites. 5k UI is the lowest I'd bother buying.

FWIW I take 3,000 IU a day supplemental, in divided doses over a 16 hour day.

It's easy to see your level after a lab, but it's mainly a concern during colder seasons imo.
If you're of ancestry from London to Moscow, especially get checked as you're at higher risk the further west in Europe you descend from.
